Hi Fatty,"Fiets!" means both the noun "Bicycle!" as well as the noun "Cycle!" and is the most read printed bicycling magazine in The Netherlands. A bit like your magazine Bicycling in the USA (yes, we read that here too!). Fiets! also has a supporting website with user forum etc. In the last issue there was a small article referring to your blog, with a small description what it's all about (mainly an entertaining blog from a cyclist who tries to lose his weight ;-)

Good job! I'm riding the Lighthouse Century here in San Luis Obispo, CA in 2 weekends w/my girlfriend. I sent her your "How to Despair" article last week. Since last year was her 1st century, she totally related. Too funny!

Cool ride, I ran on Saturday morning in the rain...it's nice running in the rain, but I can appreciate that riding a bicycle in the rain sucks. Speaking of wrong turns, I ended up chugging up a hill practicing my crazy arm movements like the hill-running clinic guy said to do, I got so caught up in how high my hear rate was and had my music so loud, someone had to come get me, I was going the wrong way! Thank goodness for kind strangers...

Dear fatty,You make me laugh -Two questions...1) Are those thigh implants? I have been wondering about the disproportionate size of your thighs.2) The number 737 - Isn't that some kind of airplane? Is it a reference to your speed, or, um, your previous size?keep up the good work, oh, and by the way, I have this bug with my computer.....

jeff -- one of the 'softies riding the MS 150 and the one directly responsible for me doing this ride, explained the meaning of "Pull & Be Damned Rd:" to me in an email. it's worth cut and pasting: "When I was growing up, my parents had a cabin on Pull & Be Damned Road. At the end of the road is a point of land, with some strong tidal currents. I understand that when people used to row boats, if they were coming in against the tide they’d row like crazy, and still not make any headway. Anyone who has been past that road remembers it (which now includes you)."

The collective noun for a group of Harley Davidsons is either a stink or a throb. In honesty, I'm not sure which because I've heard both used. It may be infuenced by whether you are in front or behind them, or it may also be influenced by how big you are and/or whether a harley rider is within earshot when you mouth the phrase.Maybe Nick is from a suit wearing capital city environment - most men are manly in Australia - knuckle dragging, thick as a brick tough. When I was 20 a velodrome jumped up and bit me in the face at high speed causing a fractured cheek, a 3 stitch gash above the hairline and 3 compressed vertabrae. Yes, a BROKEN BACK. I was out of hospital and back at the velodrome in under 90 minutes, but the officials wouldn't let me race because my right eye was swollen closed and they were worried about rider safety from me not seeing properly. Tough? Stupid? Neither, just Australian.cheersBIG Mike (skinny on the inside)
