FC, everytime I do a ride, you write about it the next day! I didn't do the full gauntlet yesterday (so YOU named it that!?) we just went up the AF side of the Alpine Loop, then down into Provo Canyon and back to my place in Orem. We wanted to get up there once more before the winter started to settle in. Calling your ride the gauntlet is fitting. It is a brutal, but very fun day in the saddle. This year I once had to do the Cascade Springs to the the summit of the Loop climb on a mountain bike, after already being in the saddle for 6 hours. That was painful. Oh, and you will be happy to know that just recently they re-paved South Fork, so it is smooth, fast, and 100% safer than the psuedo-pavement that was there before.

Another great "fake news service" article, oh great one (I saved it for dessert)! Some out-loud unseemly guffaws here. Loved the "red wine with fish" and the authenticity of the "our" ending... LOL!Is there a stash of previous articles somewhere that a person could read?

Nice route. I live at Suncrest and work in Orem. Usually one day a week, I'll drop the Suncrest road (the new south side), and climb the Alpine Loop into work. It's takes about 2:15 total ride time. The perfect way to start the day. It puts a smile on my face as I sit through those meetings at the office.Rick S.

Wouldn't it be great if we could get L'equipe and the truth in the same room to fight it out. Remind me again why the USA rescued the French certain death. TWICE!Superb ride. It's a shame we aren't all still young and silly. I did something a little "epic"ish just before "the ambulance ride". Having extracted a 4th from the state track championships (the first of the losers that gets no acknowledgement) I decided that I needed miles in my legs. I had a week of work and the next track meet was 350 miles away. I packed the track gear in a box and put it in the care of the gorillas at the railroad, then set off on a 4 day 350 mile solo ride to the venue. Along Highway 1. Yes THE major highway in Australia that links 5 of the 8 state capitals. Day 1 (Monday) was 121 miles in under 8 hours including stops with a giant feed.Day 2 was supposed to be a relaxing 65 miles but it started with 2 punctures in the first 10 miles and I didn't like my chances so I took a detour to a bike shop of know quality. D2 total 104 miles.Day 3 I woke with tendonitis in my right ankle so rescheduled my big day and did the minimum to get to the next clean motel. 71 miles.Day 4 101 miles. Long, dead, lonely miles. But as this was March (think US September) weather my knick tan was coming on a treat. I arrived at my goal at 6pm and slept until 11am.Day 5 I was where I needed to be and my body knew it. I couldn't turn the pedals better than 12 mph on a dead flat road. Which was lucky because my track bike needed a lot of love to recover from it's journey at the hands of heathens.Day 6 Track time... race 1, 5 mile scratch race, 1st. race 2, 2 mile handicap, 1st. race 3, 10 mile scratch race... the ambulance ride. But I had a great knick tan.cheersBIG Mike (skinny on the inside)

Sweet ride! Ever tried the SLC county epic (Suncrest, Big Cottonwood, Little Cottonwood, Mill Creek [to the top, you can't wuss out], emmigration, and city creek)? It's a hell of a lot of fun, but sadly has much more traffic.Justin

Wish I was fit enough to do a ride like that...But 54mph downhill with roadracing tyres and v-brakes? 'A little spooked'?Weren't you, you know, utterly paralysed with fear of imminent death? Trees blown down or cow poop spread across the road around a blind corner? What if there was a Big White Van (tm) broken down in front of you?I certainly wouldn't trust *my* road bike at that speed. Yours was probably much sexier, though, and had Blessed Dura-Ace Aura of Protection +3 or something. Sniff.

Hahaha! Dude...ohmigawd...... "Underpants Lance?" ....giggle giggle squeak...whew.... and the hamster and elderberries were a good touch.Gah... The longest ride I ever do comes to between fifty-five and sixty miles (depending on if I do the little extra loop thing) and takes about three hours. Nothing like the one you describe here, in terms of distance or climbing or danger (unless you count the crack-ninjas that roam along the bike trails; when they're armed, they can pose a threat). But I think I'm going to actually train or something and try the Sweat N Spring century next year with the LBS. I'll probably die.
