I was writing this is the hope of finding out what happened to one of the riders in LOTOJA. I didn’t see his number and
don’t know his name. I was riding with him just before Afton and a group of riders, they must have been a team because
they all had the same jursey, passed us and the last rider of the group knocked the fellow down in front of me. I of
course fell over him. I was able to get up and I finished the race but when I got to the end I found out my collarbone
was broken in three places and had to have surgury that night in Jackson. I want to know what happened to the other
fellow. He was still on the ground when I rode off but the guy who had caused us to crash was with him.

You’re right Dug, there’s plenty of blood in the history plays. But just think of that pile of bodies on the stage at the end of Hamlet, all people we’ve become intimate with throughout the play, kinda like reading Fa(s)tty’s blog–the getting to know people, not the piles of bodies, usually. Or the death of Ophelia at the hands of Othello. That’s some good killing there, not just nondescript soldiers and fodder. But remember, on the state, almost no bloody, if any, in a good production, no matter how many go down for the count. Ah, lit-tra-chur!

and bradley, i agree. henry v is a play first, movie second. i referenced it as a movie for two reasons: first, i ran across it on tv the night before the race, and happened to turn it on just as henry was listening to his soldiers bitch night before big battle, and second, because imdb.com is much easier to link to than the riverside shakespeare edition.

but to claim that tragedies have more blood going on than histories, well, that’s just silly. the dying may be more personal in a tragedy, but did you see the battle of agincourt in branagh’s henry v? bloody bloody bloody.

Why is a Shakespeare reference a movie reference? Sheesh, talk about the decline of western civilization. I’ve read the play, and I wasn’t an English major, at least until graduate school, though I am an English teacher now, but I don’t teach Henry. The tragedies have more blood going on!

45 miles with a broken collar bone? That’s beyond tough. I remember how hard it was just to get out of bed with the collar bone in 3 pieces. And let’s not even mention wiping my bum. Oh, oops, sorry, I guess I did. But for the first week after the break, it was actually easier to have a shower than reach around, even using the good arm.

That Justin has got to be one of the toughest sob’s I’ve ever heard of. I could not imagine doing a hard ride for 40 some miles with a collar bone broken in multiple places. Thanks for the awesome ride story!
