Hope the shopping and registering went well and you found the right pencil cases and rulers. I always had an aversion to those wooden rulers, everything about them seemed to be off just a little - the printing of the measurements was off, the straightedge always had ridges, they never felt satisfyingly utilitarian in the hand.
