@Lisa
I thought it was normal for their brakes squeal like a strangled squirrel. Happy to know there's something we share on the bike.

@mattc
no dropper post, no rear suspension:
1	Rocky Mortensen	12:40	40.0km/h
2	Dave Thompson	13:00	39.0km/h
3	Cory Borup	        13:03	38.8km/h
3	David Houston	        13:03	38.8km/h (no traffic)
6	Fat Cyclist	                13:40	37.1km/h
7	Lisa Nelson	        14:00	36.2km/h
8	Eric N	                14:07	35.9km/h
9	Jeff D	                14:33	34.8km/h
10	Doug Bohl	                15:56	31.8km/h

Lisa also then beat me by 4 minutes on the rest of the way to Twin Lakes

i love that Lisa is willing to share what's in her head and in her heart on these pages. Really places us behind your bars on the race course! Especially in contrast to Fatty, shows there's more than one mindset that will help you go fast!

One of the guys I ride with still rides a hard-tail. Until I got my dropper post he was nearly impossible for me to gap on my FS (he's obviously a better rider than me). But suddenly w/ my dropper post, I'm PR'ing all my descents in a big-way, and he doesn't stand a chance.

Dropper post is the biggest game-changer I can think of...more important than tubeless tires, disc brakes and even gears (well, maybe not gears...I will NEVER be a SS kind of guy). If I had to make a choice of going back to V brakes and keeping the dropper, or keeping discs and losing the post, I'd keep the post.

full suspension bikes passing the hardtails account for most of the passes on descents I would think - dropper posts not so much

Following Jeff D's opening:

A rabbit. A white rabbit in a waistcoat, muttering "Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be too late!"
Or at least that's what I thought at the time. Oxygen deficit can do that. After that, however,...

As I made the left turn through the crew area at the base of Columbine, though, my relaxation and calm were immediately disrupted by what dashed across the course right in front of me.

It was Levi Leipheimer, and Fatty had him in a headlock for some reason (and was seemingly punching him in the throat repeatedly)...which I considered all very strange because I never knew Levi was racing here, AND Fatty was supposed to be a good half-hour ahead of me by now.

Holy Shamoly, looked through the epic descending pictures and it looks like neither Lisa nor fc use droppers. What percentage of Leadville riders use them I wonder? Maybe if the people passing you on the downhill have them it would explain you guys being better than most on the climbs( cause they have droppers and extra weight) but not quite as incredible on the descents.
P.S. I'm not saying you're both not amazing on descents I think in the picture you look like you're absolutely smoking fast!
