I don't think you are crazy for expressing your thoughts during the race. Chatter away :)

With me it is the total opposite though, I don't like to talk at all when I ride and others probably think I am being snooty. I simply don't want to talk while on the bike, that has nothing to do with anybody else.

Congratulations on completing the 200 miles, great job!

Congratulations on a great race! That is some nice work. Just a few comments comments on the rest of the race, and various other miscellany, too.

My good sense told me months ago to buy Lindsey a “No Bad Days” t-shirt when I saw one in her size. That certainly would have helped to avert her LOTOJA experience from this year. But then, that would have robbed her Strava posts of color and undulation. She relishes the good and the sometimes-not-so-good on Strava.

Even on a bad day (two flats, stomach issues, etc.), she averaged nearly 19mph. It goes without saying that she’s a little pissed about the way the day went. When Lindsey is pissed, crazy things happen. Pissed = incentive for Lindsey.

She knows she would have ridden a sub-10 this year since, last year she posted a 10:09:42 and the year before a 10:28:47. Given that same trend, she should have posted a 9:50:00 this year, and given the trend in her group that Ben (her husband) is much faster this year and they have ridden every ride together all year, and that Fatty and the Hammer keep peeling time off every year at their advanced ages, certainly Lindsey at 25 would have peeled off at least nine more minutes. She gets faster and more tenacious every year. I’m glad she posted the race to Stava, despite it not being what she wanted it to be, and in spite of the fact that I did not buy that t-shirt.

I have rectified my egregious oversight (t-shirt in hand), and with that rectification, I offer a guarantee that Lindsey will sub-10 next year. That’s how she rolls.

On another note, my invitation to Fatty and the Hammer to ride Porcupine Rim in Moab still stands -- Fall is the very best time for that mountain bike trail. That's a good place for a reluctant badass mountain biker to show her stuff. :-)

The Hammer - I love the fact that you understood yourself and attacked. Anyone with enough juice left to launch an attack after 200 miles is a Hammer indeed!

I know the pain of doing a century - especially in the saddle area - so I can't even imagine what must go through your head when you realize that you've done 150 miles, but still have another 50 to do. I'd probably get off my bike, sit down (gently) and cry.

Nice job! You're so strong!

Wow! Great story and terrific result, Lisa!

I can't imagine a double century but then, I couldn't imagine a century until I did one.

Way to go!

Fatty and Lisa, it'd be a great post to have the two of you be a panel discussion (moderated by yourselves) about what constitutes "sneaky" and other milestones along the sinner-saint spectrum.

Ellie's bid for the QOM was sneaky-smart (toward the saint-end). If she had promised not to contest and then went for it, it would have been sneaky-deceitful (toward the sinner-end).

In a road race, it's understood (I think) that a group working together will work together until any member of the group thinks that it's to his/her advantage not to work together anymore.

Did Ellie end up winning? If so, her attack ahead of the sprint ended up being a great (sneaky-good) move.

Even though I don't do competitive racing, I really enjoy reading about those who do. Before you know it, I'll be pouring over Tour de France reports (probably not). Both you and Elden write really well. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome race, and report, Lisa!

Regarding "sneaky people in this sport", I lost a podium spot in a criterium once because I "trusted" the group I was in to finish as we were, but one guy sprinted anyway. Insert cuss words here!

It does take awhile to get all the tactics figured out, but you being so strong is a major advantage. Good job!

Awesome job Lisa. I'm more of a Roadie myself, so I relate more to this race report than the mountain bike rides. I don't relate to 200 mile races but that's a different story. Great job!
