Whoa! Fatty! 34x18 is crazy gear for that stuff. Like, #peathenry crazy. Totally legit. Sad I'm missing the desert this year - but excited to see how the swimmer and hammer demolish everyone :)

I hate those out of sorts days when you are not the athlete of your memory, justified or not. I hate that the clock keeps ticking, slower and stiffer. But the alternative is to ball up on the couch and become a sloth. This is way more distasteful so give yourself some space to be where you are today and chip away tomorrow. I think some people are telling me this is wisdom of age. I'm just pissed and determined tomorrow I will push back on time.

We've all had those days. I think you should have stuck it out and just ridden at your own pace. Unless of course you were injured or sick.

So if the Swimmer is now a biker, shouldn't she get a new name? I mean the Runner became the Hammer, so the Swimmer becomes the sWAMmer?

Is having a family that bikes kinda like having a family that gambles? If there is no N-1 equation, (N = the number of bikes where your spouse leaves) the money spent on this sport could rival the national debt.

Not a criticism, just pure envy.

<blockquote>Around here, we call it pure <a href="http://enve.com" rel="nofollow">ENVE</a>. - FC</blockquote>

Fatty, your lassitude is nota t all surprising, considering your illness the week before. Give yourself time to recover, and we'll be reading soon of your energy and climbing prowess once again.

It is so great to hear that the Swimmer, AKA Scar, AKA Nails, as in daughter of The Hammer, is getting into endurance mountain biking competition. Given what you have told us about her over the years, we are looking forward to hearing a lot more about her exploits. Daughter of The Hammer - the apple never falls far from the tree, and she has already proven her stamina and resilience.

Swimmer / Scar / Nails, know that you have our support and that we look forward to everything you are going to accomplish.

The Hammer is going to Leadville on SS again? Darn! I put into the lottery to also do Leadville SS thinking surely they would want a ss girl since there aren't hardly any but I didn't get in. So I am going to do the AZ qualifier which is AFTER the 2016 Leadville in hopes of qualifying for 2017.

nice write up, thank you for sharing that.
And, knowing you, (I don't actually know know you, but feel like I do after all these years), this rough day will translate to more drive and more motivation to get you back on track.

Chalk it up to illness, revel in your uncharacteristic use of good judgement to bail on the ride, and use it to drive you to make sure it doesn't happen again :-)
