If the organisers of Leadville recognised the Hammer for the Wonderwoman she is and let her start wherever she pleased (as reigning singlespeed champion) along with any domestiques she may have chosen to employ then all this kerfuffle could have been avoided.

It is very hard *not* to be a jerk on Kevins. Very. Hard. All the addrenelaine, the panic, the fear of knocking someone off or being knocked off (or sat on apparently) gets everyone totally worked up.

I have starting yelling “you can do it!” A la “The Watwrboy”. I think it’s really funny. I don’t think many others do though. I guess that makes me a jerk and nice all at the same time

I wont be a jerk and point out the English Class error(s), but I will admit to being a jerk. I have had the tunnel vision a few times that sounds pretty similar to your mountain-line experience here.

Let me guess, The Monster passes by the two of you as if you were stopped?

It’s actually fine to point out typos and confusing stuff. Appreciated even. I write and edit all by myself, and I make mistakes. Lots of them. The only thing I’ll pre-emptively note that I won’t change is my frequent shifts in tense. I write that way because that’s how I think of the story. At one moment I’m thinking of the race as something that happened, at another I think of it as something that’s happening. So that’s how I write.

Re your guess on when/whether The Monster passes (passed?) us, well, you’ll see tomorrow. And perhaps on another day too. – FC
