It took me a few looks, but are those AVOCADO socks? I thought you just had a pair of green socks with blob-spots, but on a big screen I think it looks much more like you have found a pair of the best green socks the world will ever see.

Yep, Avocado socks. The Hammer saw them in a shop in Frisco, CO the week before Leadville. They’re awesome. – FC

Many moons ago (actually the day Hincapie won a Tour stage) I raced an X-Terra triathlon where I lost the course on the run. I realized my mistake, wandered my way back on course more or less where I ’should’ have been, maybe 1 mile from the finish. A guy who I had been more or less pacing (but had dropped me earlier) looked over and said ‘I knew I’d see you again!’ and kicked it up a gear.

I figured ‘what the hell, I’m only pushing him to a better finish’ and stayed with him. We came onto the finishing field of about 1/2 mile ramping up the pace to a full sprint by the chute- even attracting some cheers for the head-to-head battle. I stepped of course just before the line and my race-buddy almost fell over trying to figure out what I was doing. I just yelled ‘DNF!’ We had a good laugh afterwards.

I must say that I, too, have been prone to the tunnel vision of a route and went blind to the road signs. I just get so excited and start to become "one" with the area and ignore all else. I think I would have done the same thing there, FC. It is always nice to see your honest DQ confessions as many could easily abuse the situation. Didn't you do something similar last year on a road ride, or was it a Tri? Side note: Will your FC decoder rings also double as a homing beacon when lost?

Yep, I did something VERY similar in a Tri a couple years ago. Clearly, I am a slow learner. - FC

@Shugg McGraw – in my experience, as a 50+ mtn biker, the only way to not fall of the bike is to not ride it as it was intended to be ridden. YMMV
