Thanks. Have been living in Cajamarca for a few months and working here for a few years. Love the mountain biking here and there is so much more to explore. Shoot me an email if you are still around and want to go out riding.

Well, took your ride report to bed last night and read it carefully. Now not sure that I could ride with you especially at that kind of altitude. But on the other hand you have enthused me enough to want to build in some serious cycling to my trip and bring appropriate clothes etc.
My guess is the faultline in my plan will be acquiring a suitable bike. I can probably afford to spend about S/400 on a second hand which is probably roughly the cost of bringing one. But I may do better to find something in Lima. What do you think?

I am really hoping we can hook up. I am going to link to your article on my cycle club which is www.addiscombe.org you will find it under forum/ general later today.

You can also contact me on face book or by skype. My skype name is alanmalarkey.

Hoping that we can make contact, ride a little and scare some dogs.

Best wishes

Hey Danny, I too am a cyclist, a pretty fit 60, doing 150 miles/week and racing in the season. Thing is I plan to spend 2 months in Cajamarca Jan - March and I would love not to lose my fitness. I am escaping London winter and visiting Peru which I love. I plan to do some voluntary work, continue studying Spanish and hang out. Last year I bough a 2nd hand bike in Piura and really this is less hassle than bringing one, or I can hire. I would be delighted to meet you and share some trails.

best wishes, Alan

Hey...there is no way you will get this before we leave Cajamarca, but I was wondering if you were familiar with the alternative routes out of Cajamarca. We are touring through Peru and are looking for a more scenic, secluded route back to the PanAm. We are thinking of the main road back towards Pacasmayo for a short bit before turning off at San Juan to head south...have you been here. How about the route south from Chilete, further down towards the PanAm...or maybe east/south towards Cajabamba?
Yanacocha sounds like a sweet ride!
Thanks for the info.
