Snapshots from Yesterday

A few pictures taken while we were at the “California Adventure” part of Disneyland yesterday:

Katie, cooling down at one of the water fountain play areas. Temperature here was about 75-80 (F) yesterday.

Brice, Nigel, and my Mom (sorry about cutting you out of the picture, Mom!) on the Ferris wheel. This has got to be the coolest-looking Ferris wheel ever. It’s huge. Unfortunately, it’s as lame to ride as every other Ferris wheel.

IMG_0999
Carrie and Susan in the Ferris wheel. Isn’t Susan looking great? (Both Susan and I got seriously motion sick from the start/stop motion of the Ferris wheel, coupled with the random rocking motion. So far, this is the only ride I have not enjoyed.)

Carrie gives Mickey a big hug. Katie would not go near any of the characters; she finds them disturbing. As do I.

But, seriously, motion sickness on a ferris wheel…

    Fatty,
Thanks for sharing with us. The whole family looks like they are having a good time. That is good to see.
Shouldn’t you take a pic with Porky Pig?

Good photos – thanks for letting us enjoy a virtual vacation through your family.

I like encountering the characters in the park – just another little touch that makes Disneyland unique and special.

But I can’t stand the autographs. It’s just so absurd. Most of these characters started as cartoons so there is no real person. What does it mean if you get a signature that says “Mickey Mouse” signed by Kyle who is 18 and lives in San Bernardino? But most infuriating is how much time these autographs take, making the wait to see the character seem interminable. I wish Disneyland would ban autographs.

Rant off. I feel better now.

The characters ARE disturbing. I have an irrational fear of mascots.

Looks like fun– except for the motion sickness part.

I like the “extreme closeup” shot! :) :)

It’s not the cartoon characters you have to watch out for, it’s the princesses… because they cause you to spend a mazillion dollars on princess accessories in the gift shops. :)

Cool pictures, Fatty! Yes, Susan is looking great. :-)

My younger daughter was also scared to go up to the characters for a while. We explained that they were just normal people dressed up in a costume and then she was ok with it. After she got over it, she would even tell people that that’s why she’s not afraid to go up to them.

I’m sure you are, but take lots of pictures. Disney is a very special memory to have with your kids. :-)

Disturbed is the only way to feel toward giant formerly animated anthropomorphised animals.

Susan looks marvelous!! I am so happy you guys are having such a good time. I have no love for ferris wheels either….especially ones of the humungoid variety, such as the one I experienced at the 1982 World’s Fair…..do they even have World’s Fairs anymore? Anywhooo, thanks for letting us experience the magic through your family photos.

Susan, you are looking great! I am so glad you have having fun. I am freezing here in cloudy Utah. . .

Regarding the Ferris Wheel, we opt for the seats that are anchored to the wheel, rather than the ones that move around the track. Saves on the motion sickness.

KanyonKris: Let me tell you, I know from experience that it is easier to get Levi Leipheimer’s, Bobby Julich’s or other world class cyclists’ autographs than it is to get “Cinderella’s” autograph at Dland.

I have never agreed with you more. I hate that damn Ferris Wheel. Ruined the whole rest of my day.

    Fatty –
I hear what you’re saying about that ferris wheel. The ferris wheel, for crying out loud. My husband and I both thought we were crazy for feeling sick after that ride. We chose the rocking/swinging cars. Your pictures are making me so homesick for Disneyland! What a great trip! Did you all manage to avoid the two-story BUILD-A-BEAR? That was the first thing my girls noticed last year, the Build-a-Bear boxes everywhere. It’s like they can smell that there’s one in the vicinity…

Psst, Shadow Scythe — if your dad ever bugs you about your haircut, it’s because he’s jealous.

OMG, is that Nigel wearing a homestarrunner.com “Support the Municipality” T-shirt? “Honor, Valor, Butter”: Eldon, you need one of those for your super eating moments.
