I got it good; I don’t know how good I got it

04.8.2009 | 9:09 am

Yesterday, I talked about how foolish I felt for having ignored Lambert Park until then. I then said that I was going back that very afternoon to explore some more.

Well, that turned out to be a fine idea indeed.

And there are big chunks of singletrack I still haven’t explored.

Let me remind you that this is a trail network less than a mile from my house. And as I’ve mentioned before, I can ride up Hogg’s Hollowes right from my front door, too, giving me access to Corner Canyon (I’ve got some late winter footage of that I need to put together — tomorrow, maybe?).

And then, of course, there’s the Ridge Trail Network. And Grove. And all the road riding.

There are no two ways about it: I am spoiled, and spoiled rotten.

PS: For those of you suddenly interested in Alpine, UT as a place of residence, this photo might be of interest.

Hey, we could totally be next-door neighbors/riding buddies. And the price is reduced and everything.

You should give Jared a call. And tell him Fatty sent you. That will freak him out, because he has no idea who I am. All the more reason to call, if you ask me.

Sweet ride, thanks for the vids.

niiiice. The three dudes at the end of the vid are co-workers (ok, two bosses and a co-worker). I linked them to yesterday’s post and told them to be on the lookout. Hope they didn’t drool on the singlefly (too much).

    Here’s the listing – http://www.utahhomes.com/Property/propertydetails.aspx?SearchID=1952180&PropertyGUID=98B88EBC-ECB0-4C7C-A6C6-D7E492D1D45F&RowNum=1&Branded=1&IsBranded=1&ABPersonnelID=3102

I continue to be sad that I live in Chicago, the land of overhyped and overpriced real estate.

$500K for 6 bedroom, 4 bath, 4800 square feet. Ridiculous.

coincidence that you included the footage of you passing two dudes? i think not. looks like a great ride.

  9. Comment by Rob L | 04.8.2009 | 9:58 am

I’d totally move there to hang and ride.

Except I’d miss the coast too much. I hate being as far as I am now from the beach at 2 hours or so.

Excellent video of some great trails! I’m surprised the real estate listing doesn’t mention the fact the home is right next door to the famous Fat Cyclist and his inspiring wife Susan! If it’s still for sale when I retire, we will be neighbors for sure. Oh wait, in this economy it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to retire…

  11. Comment by MikeonHisBike | 04.8.2009 | 10:04 am

If we were neighbors I’d be over trying to borrow your bikes all of the time. I better stay where I’m at for now for your sake.

Someone needs to tell Jared that he missed some of the important listing features – the riding, FF (Fatty’s Family).
You know, you can get a pretty nice 3 bedroom place where I live for that price – if you aren’t all that concerned about the neighborhood…

Fantastic video. More More! I do remember a post in the past where you stated that you could not descend and now I see people peeling away to get out of the way of your downhill prowess.

Did they hear the rush of your unstoppable downhill bombing coming up on them or was it more of a shrill “AAAAAIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!”. LOL

It looks like there’s bones scattered all over the trail.

I’d always wondered why you’ve never mentioned Lambert Park in the past – when I lived in Utah County I rode LP at least once a month. Sure, it’s not super technical, but it’s fast and flowy and local. And the jumps on Ruin are awesome!

  18. Comment by campy | 04.8.2009 | 11:09 am

Do you suppose the realtors are wondering why their site is now getting thousands of hits on this one house?

  19. Comment by TomE | 04.8.2009 | 11:09 am

What…no helmets for the two riders you passed???? Nice find Fatty!

  20. Comment by MTB W | 04.8.2009 | 11:19 am

Nice Vid! You were cruising past everyone (including non-helmeted riders), banking turns and looking ridicously fast. I am guessing you cranked up the camera speed and also yelled to those riders to pull over to make you look good :) But seriously, that first part looked like it had a vertigo inducing drop off yet you rode right over a nasty big rock around the 30 second mark without hesitation – kudos.

    Nice video.

How do you get to that trail up on the hill side (the one at the beginning of the video)?

I would have been there with my wife (Jolene) but I was stuck with the web order from hell.

Once I got up there, I wondered that exact question: how did I get on this trail? I was just taking random turns at the beginning of the ride, using “does it go up?” as my decision making methodology. Then somehow I got on this trail, which I didn’t even realize exist before. It was an out-and-back trail, though, with some tight switchbacks on the way down (first one surprised me). I’ve honestly been wondering whether I’ll be able to easily find that section again.

Of course, if I were Dug I’d be able to give you accurate and easy-to-follow directions.

Jolene’s a VERY strong rider by the way. I was impressed. -FC

  25. Comment by MOCougFan | 04.8.2009 | 1:30 pm

I’m guessing those two guys pulled over because you yelled VENISON, or maybe BREWHAHAHA.

Jolene of course just continued to fly down the slaloms.

    Awesome video.

  26. Comment by MommyAmy | 04.8.2009 | 1:48 pm

I’m not a cyclist. When I hit play on the video I thought, well, I’ll watch the first 15 seconds tops. I watched the ENTIRE thing! That looks like so much fun!

Hope Jared gets lots of calls today. :P

  28. Comment by the greg | 04.8.2009 | 2:16 pm

wow. all that on a ti-rex. did you change to more aggressive tread? i hate your face fatty. The triple “S” and awesome trails surrounding you? errrrrrrrrrrr!

p.s. your face isn’t really all that bad, i’m just speaking out of angry jealousy.

  29. Comment by Rob M | 04.8.2009 | 3:02 pm

    I am confused.

Are you telling us that the price of your neighbor’s beautiful home was reduced after you won, for the second time, a very prestigious blogging award?

It doesn’t make sense. The price should have been increased.

What are you not telling us. Come on, Fatty, come clean.

  30. Comment by Rudi | 04.8.2009 | 3:29 pm

@tmz: if you think Chi-town is bad, take a look at DC: in my part of town (northwest/Dupont area), $500K will barely get you an efficiency or studio.

  31. Comment by joe blow | 04.8.2009 | 3:35 pm

The house has been reduced because the realtor is obviously an idiot. He has negligently failed to mention the prestige of living near a well-known and respected Internet blogger. Its like living next to the Osbornes, without the drugs and swearing.

looks like someone else is playing with iMovie ‘09!
fyi, you might want to look at vimeo.com as an alternative to youtube for your videos. Vimeo preserves the video quality much better and you get much nicer, sharper streaming video (assuming you choose a relatively high quality export setting from iMovie). For example, here is a “chest-cam” video I took with my Canon point-and-shoot digital camera in Crested Butte last fall. It looks very sharp, even in full-screen mode – http://www.vimeo.com/1656031
The same video on youtube looks like crap, even the “HQ” version
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDsZeq_FBWg

I’ve been checking out Vimeo and just bought a Vimeo+ membership. Going forward, I’ll be using Vimeo too. – FC

Elden – Jolene’s strong riding had something to do with not wanting to be in a video that thousands of people would see.

  34. Comment by Ant | 04.8.2009 | 5:23 pm

Love a good helmet cam movie. I would dearly, dearly like to get my hands on one – one could say I ‘covet’ it.

I can almost hear you calling ‘track… TRACK!!!’ over the soundtrack, those guys you passed looked like rabbits caught in the 1000 watt headlights of the Fatty pain train.

  35. Comment by Lucky Cyclist | 04.8.2009 | 5:48 pm

    Fatty was all,..
This is not my beautiful trail,…
That is not my beautiful wife….(It was Kris’s)
    How Did I get Here?
BTW you can live within ten minutes drive from Lambert for substantially less than 500K. But Fatty has to flush his toilet for me to get a drink.=(

yeah, lotsa houses for sale in the area. lots over $500k, lots under. very different from when i was scouring the town for a house to live in a few years ago. btw, give a shout anytime you need a drink. we’re very happy to send something your way. – FC

  36. Comment by joliver3 | 04.8.2009 | 8:18 pm

Awesome trail! I might even learn to like descending if I had something to ride that flowed like that.

So my wife walks in and asks, “Why are you looking at houses?” Any jobs in Alpine, UT? :-)

At least the last of the snow pretty much melted today where I live…..

    Great video!

Let us know if you hear anything from Jared. It would be too funny if he sells listing thanks to you!

  38. Comment by dug | 04.8.2009 | 9:21 pm

zeph, i’m over it. i mean, it’s still stupid. and wrong. and completely ignores the fact that no hogs own the hollow. and that boss hogg lives in hazard county, not alpine.

i’m totally over it. i cannot be baited.

  39. Comment by leroy | 04.8.2009 | 10:33 pm

    I called Jared.

He said they wouldn’t have had to drop the price if you removed the rusty pick up truck on cinder blocks from your front lawn. He also mentoned something about overweight guys in lycra scaring buyers.

Honestly, he sounded fussier than my Brooklyn co-op board when I installed those life-sized Elvis Presley statuettes next to the elevators in the lobby.

Good thing they haven’t figured out that the pulled pork smell wafting through the building is coming from the BBQ pit I put in the fireplace.

But I could totally see living on your cul de sac Alpine. Can I keep goats? Inside?

That ride looks great! Loved the music you used too!

And that house is gorgeous!! ;P

  41. Comment by Andrew | 04.9.2009 | 8:28 am

Dude. I’d love to live up in Alpineā€”even if it was next to an (how did leroy phrase it?) “overweight guy in lycra.”

    It’d be like double-clyde-cul-de-sac mojo.

I dig the DEVO song in your video. But I found the music video to be ironic in light of your MIM affliction:

And didn’t Jolene just race last weekend? She rocks!

I see the model of your camera, but I’m wondering what software you use for the editing.

Yours seems a bit more stable than mine…is the stabilizing handled by the camera, or are you cleaning it up some in software?

I’m using iMovie ‘09. It has image stabilization, but I’m not using it in this video, and the camera doesn’t have stabilization. I’ve just got the camera mounted on my helmet and am trying not to jerk my head around too often. – FC

I’d call Jared, but even an 866 number is expensive from London, UK.
