Win a Jersey Signed by Lance Armstrong and…Me

09.22.2009 | 9:21 am

A Note About 2010 Jerseys from Fatty: Twin Six and I have started getting a lot of email from people asking about why their 2010 Fat Cyclist jerseys haven’t arrived. As mentioned in my pre-order post, your stuff will arrive in mid-November.

Also, I’ve been getting a lot of email from people wondering how they can buy 2010 jerseys now. Well, right now you can’t order a Fat Cyclist jersey. However, once the pre-order shipment comes in and everything’s been shipped out and had time for exchanges and returns, there will be some jerseys left over, at which point they’ll go up for sale. I’ll announce at least 24 hours ahead of time when they’re available. Please note that these “leftovers” jerseys always go fast. If you want one, you shouldn’t wait a day or two to think about it, because by then they’ll be gone.

Win a Jersey Signed Both by Lance Armstrong and…Me.

OK, I’ve given everyone a few weeks off of the whole “Help Team Fatty Fight Cancer” thing. I figured you all deserved a break. And frankly, I felt like I deserved one too.

But now we’re just a month or so away from the final LiveStrong Challenge event, and it’s time to kick it into high gear.

Over the next few weeks, you’re going to see some pretty remarkable fundraising contests. And we’re going to start with one engineered by my friend BikeCopVT, a frequent commenter and one-time guest poster at Fat Cyclist.

pic1.pngBen participated in the LiveStrong Philly event and as part of his schwag bag from LAF, received a Team LiveStrong Jersey like the one you see Lance sporting here.

While in Philly, Ben cornered me in the hotel elevator, and got me to sign his Team LiveStrong jersey, after he explained he’d be raffling it to benefit the LAF.

It is because of his career as a bicycle patrol officer that this prize takes on an interesting twist. No, you’re not getting a “get out of jail free” card too.

You see, as a police officer that rides bikes a lot, you develop many strong friendships along the way. Police officers in particular really like to help each other out, and as we all know, friends have connections. One of Ben’s good friends is also a bicycle patrol officer and because of that he has developed a working relationship of sorts with — you guessed it, Lance Armstrong. After Ben begged and begged, this friend agreed to bring the jersey to Lance and Lance graciously agreed to sign the jersey as well.

pic2.png

Or at least, we can assume he was gracious, since Lance has not tweeted about being held hostage for an autograph.

Here is where you come in. You can now be the proud owner of a 2009 Team LiveStrong jersey signed by me and Lance Armstrong. At the same time 100% of your $5 raffle ticket is going to the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

For every $5 donation you get one virtual raffle ticket. $10 gets you two tickets, and so on. Donate here (http://philly09.livestrong.org/benkaufman) for your virtual raffle ticket.

Sorry, no picture of my signature (it really is there). You’ll just have to believe it’s there. And also, you’ll have to believe how weird I feel about signing stuff.

Just one problem: if you win you have to decide (if you frame it) do you want to look at Lance’s or Fatty’s signature (Lance signed the front, I signed the back). I’m sure you’ll do the right thing.

The raffle runs until Monday, September 28, 2009 at 9:00 p.m. EDT. Click here to donate, and good luck!

PS: Posts will be kind of scarce for the next few days. I have other fish in need of frying. I’ll be back in force next week.

You didn’t sign it in permanent ink, did you? :)

  2. Comment by Alon | 09.22.2009 | 10:10 am

    Podium!!!

It can be framed sandwiched between 2 glass panes. Like a flip-flop hub, you can choose which cycling star to brag about!!!

  3. Comment by Mike Roadie | 09.22.2009 | 10:15 am

I have a Lance item…..but NO Elden Nelson!!!!

    FLS

  4. Comment by Chris B | 09.22.2009 | 10:16 am

When I win I’ll just carefully slice the jersey in two and display both sides. Genius!

  5. Comment by Mikeonhisbike | 09.22.2009 | 10:36 am

Lance has signed tons of items over the years but a Fatty signature. Now that’s a rarity. I know what side I would display.

  6. Comment by Lana | 09.22.2009 | 10:41 am

What about just getting a manikin top to display it on – then you could enjoy it in full 3-D.

Note: I said manikin, not a life-sized Lance or Elden cut out – that would just be weird.

  7. Comment by Cyclin' Missy | 09.22.2009 | 10:41 am

Very awesome prize! Next time, let’s get a women’s jersey signed!

  8. Comment by AngieG | 09.22.2009 | 10:42 am

You could mount it between two glass panes, then cut a hole in your wall and insert it like a stained glass window.

Then you get the best of both worlds.:-)

  9. Comment by Nancy P | 09.22.2009 | 10:43 am

Speakin’ of your return to Cancer fightin’, are you going to update the totals on the right?
    Just curious . . .

  10. Comment by Jenny-Jenny | 09.22.2009 | 10:47 am

I’m thinking the Fatty signature will be worth something. Now I’m off to purchase a raffle ticket.

  11. Comment by Matt | 09.22.2009 | 10:53 am

Obviously this calls for sandwiching between glass panes, then hanging it in the middle of the room. By U-locks.

  12. Comment by Lizzylou | 09.22.2009 | 11:11 am

Well, I already have a jersey with a Fatty signature (one I was very nervous about washing)… but I don’t have a Lance jersey, I could frame the two side by side.

  13. Comment by Clydesteve | 09.22.2009 | 11:50 am

Fatty – RESign it – on the front! Anyone that wins this thing will of course display the Fatty sig, and putting a jersey behind glass mounted backwards is just ..lame.

  14. Comment by Carl | 09.22.2009 | 12:06 pm

    I agree with Clydesteve!!!

  15. Comment by Rantwick | 09.22.2009 | 12:24 pm

I only donated because I’ve never owned a cycling jersey, because bikes are only for people who can’t afford to drive a nice big car, but I think it would look cool and impress the ladies at nightclubs. I could tell them you and Lance were buddies of mine.

Kidding, kidding. Cudos to Ben for his (and his buddy’s) initiative and generosity.

  16. Comment by Rantwick | 09.22.2009 | 12:31 pm

Oh, yeah… I agree with ClydeSteve too. Re-sign it!

  17. Comment by 100poundsago | 09.22.2009 | 12:45 pm

If I win it I am totally cutting that rascal in half and framing both sides….FO SHO!

  18. Comment by Jessica @ How Sweet It Is | 09.22.2009 | 1:49 pm

Lance Armstrong is the one person I’d love to meet…along with Mario Lemiuex.

  19. Comment by JB | 09.22.2009 | 2:30 pm

I’m with Lana, maniken with spot lights!

  20. Comment by dug | 09.22.2009 | 2:36 pm

    sure, yada yada.

but seriously, why hasn’t my 2010 fat cyclist jersey arrived yet?

  21. Comment by Carl | 09.22.2009 | 2:42 pm

Mario Lemiuex… I might be able to get a jersey signed by him for Fatty to use as a prize. Do you think that would bring in enough money to make it worth it Jessica?

  22. Comment by Jeff Sebolt | 09.22.2009 | 3:05 pm

Pittsburgh native here….. If you could get a Penguins Jersey/Sweater (Stanley Cup Champs in case you guys are too embedded in bikes to know… Not a bad thing, BTW)signed by Mario, I think it would bring a few bucks for the cause. I assume you were referring to hockey garb, correct?

  23. Comment by joe blow | 09.22.2009 | 4:24 pm

Of course, we would display Lance’s signature, so that yours would be protected from fading from the sun.

  24. Comment by Fifth Column | 09.22.2009 | 6:40 pm

You’ll just have to mount it “cheesy-first-grade-craft-project” style by making a coat hangar mobile to hang from your ceiling fan.

  25. Comment by Born 4Lycra | 09.22.2009 | 8:14 pm

As the proud owner of possibly the first ever signed Fatty top a Black/Orange one which Fatty arranged the distribution off and therefore signed for me before he posted it I have to say his signature must be visible. It is a thing of beauty. To Clydesteve your suggestion is so simple it will become a thing of legend. Fatty sign the front.

  26. Comment by Joel P. | 09.22.2009 | 8:27 pm

Why is everyone asking an award winning cycling blogger to re-sign the jersey. Maybe that Armstrong fella should re-sign on the back.
    Joel P.

  27. Comment by Kathleen | 09.22.2009 | 9:14 pm

If I win I am so wearing it! With my shiny Sidi shoes :-)

    [Original Troll Message Deleted]

The strict “Don’t comment it if you wouldn’t say it in front of Fatty’s kids in his living room” policy at FatCyclist.com requires that I replace this comment with the chorus to “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees:

    And now it’s all right, it’s O.K.
And you may look the other way.
    We can try to understand
The New York Times’ effect on man.
    Whether you’re a brother
    Or whether you’re a mother,
    You’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive.
    Feel the city breakin’
    And ev’rybody shakin’
And we’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive.
    Ah, ha, ha, ha,
    Stayin’ alive.
    Stayin’ alive.
    Ah, ha, ha, ha,
    Stayin’ alive.

    Thank you.

Um, I think “j” needs to go suck some balls. Lance has NEVER failed a blood test ever. He probably has been tested more than any other athlete on the planet at random, weird times. I think “j” is a LOSER.

Anyway, I made my donation. It’s not much, but it all counts right? Trying to get out of debt so I’m on an allowance (though I did get to order a SCHWEET Fatty jersey and arm warmers – woot!). Anyhow, if I win, which I won’t because I hardly ever win anything, but if I did, I would totally wear it. I wouldn’t wash it though. :) Would have to keep those signatures from fading. I’ll wear it w/ my mtb shoes! :)

  30. Comment by Niall @ Brisvegas | 09.23.2009 | 2:01 am

Come on ‘j’..own up to who you really are. Sure you shouldn’t use the initials AC??? Elden, seriously mate, I reckon you should edit the posts before they get displayed – we don’t need to see such vitriol (even though the 1st permits it). ‘J’ needs erasing…permanently! Dexter…where are you?

There is no way I have time to moderate the comments. The J comment was a rarity, and now it’s the chorus to Stayin’ Alive. A net win, if you ask me. – FC

  31. Comment by Born 4 Lycra | 09.23.2009 | 3:00 am

Niall every now and again a dropkick (AFL or NRL) gets through especially when fatty is busy and Fatty has a pretty strict policy on content. J is entitled to it’s opinion misinformed and as unintelligent (as demonstrated by it’s astonishing vocabulary) as it is.

Also for those worried about wearing the top and washing it. MY FC top is what 3 years maybe more old, worn and washed constantly and Fatty’s signature still is very prominent.

Funny to me is that the current ad between the post and the comments is for—clorox detergent. I would never risk it.

Those Nike and Livestrong guys are using the original Fatcyclist jersey for inspiration. They should ghost the clydesdale behind the Nike Swoosh

No problem for me with signatures front and back. I would wear this jersey proudly on my club rides.

Surlyrider and I are auctioning stuff too for the Livestrong Austin ride. Click on my name for a link to the info.

I’m auctioning a set of the bright pink tires I rode in Philly, surlyrider is auctioning even cooler stuff than me. (:o)

    Countdown to Austin!!

Yeh Eldon dropped me in Philly not lance. I am sure I could have sucked his wheel. Well right behind Charmicheal

    Jeff and Jessica,
I have a friend at the Lemieux Foundation I will see what I can do.

Also I would be willing to donate my Sidney Crosby Winter Classic jersey. I wanted to get it signed last year, but since I live in Nor Cal, couldn’t make it to the game the one time they played the Sharks. So it is unsigned, however it is a premiere jersey with the game worn tag inside and a fight strap. Very cool!

  38. Comment by Jamieson | 09.23.2009 | 4:33 pm

Now to get LA to sign my Team Fatty jersey…..

    That would be a WIN.

Looking at the banner up at the top of the page, you can see that Fatty signed my jersey too – I’m to his right.

  40. Comment by Marilyn | 09.23.2009 | 7:23 pm

At livestrong philly, Chris Carmichael signed my new livestrong jersey plus I got a great picture with him so I am making my donations to hopefully add Fatty and Lance to my collection. You just ride stronger and proud with a jersey like that on!!!!!!

Since our new jersey’s have not shipped yet Fatty can you sign mine before it does. Thank you in advance!!!!

    j,

So what if he is? What if I am to? You want a piece of me jackass? I’ll be your huckleberry. It’s Fatties blog so if you don’t like it buzz off and go post on the CN Lance haters forum.

  42. Comment by Big Mike In Oz | 09.24.2009 | 4:11 am

Surely some creative origami would allow the 2 esteemed cyclists’ signatures to coexist in a unique glass cabinet.

Either that or get the jersey mounted on a fashion store mannequin and have it rotating in a slightly larger glass case.

    1. Rock Racing is still alive?

    2. Fatty, I cannot wait for your new post about them.

    3. Fatty, now that you are a cycling media superstar, why don’t you just ride exclusively with Rock Racing jerseys? ;-)

A Mechanical Engineer with one name??? Like a Fashion Designer???? As an ME, I can only say:

    Oh, the shame.

Fedon Brings Cutting Edge Technology to Rock Racing Brand

Fedon, a mechanical engineer, was charged with research and development of Rock Racing’s new product line. He comes to the team from Advanced Sports Inc., where he reviewed and revamped frame geometry for all brands and created a company-wide process of developing frames and components. He was instrumental in the design of the Fuji D-6 time trial/triathlon bicycle that Rock Racing road tested at the 2008 Tour of Missouri, as well as the re-design of ASI’s Kestrel line of bicycles. Fedon previously worked as head mechanic for the U.S. national cycling team, Navigator’s Insurance, Barloworld and the Toyota-United Pro Cycling Team. He holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Kinesiology from Penn State University.

I think those that have emailed about why their Fatty stuff hasn’t arrived should forfeit their purchase and it be mailed directly to me…and they should be forced to listen to the Bee Gees…over and over again.

  47. Comment by buckythedonkey | 09.28.2009 | 1:31 am

Just what is (or was) the New York Times effect on man? One for BSNYC, maybe.

As for the jersey conundrum, a Damian Hirst-style standalone glass cabinet would do the trick. Going the whole hog (or cow) and suspending the jersey in formaldehyde would be dramatic but might dissolve the autographs. And you may have to reinforce the floor.

Thanks for all that you do, I look forward to reading your blog for many years to come!!
