Iron Couple

05.1.2010 | 9:52 pm

Just a quick note now before I begin to eat everything that has ever existed. The Runner and I finished the St. George Ironman today, crossing the finish line together in 13:34.

For the next 36 hours, I would like you to think of me not simply as “Fatty,” but as “IronFatty.”

I’m sure some of you are wondering whether we will be doing another Ironman. To that, The Runner and I offer the following answer:

One and done.

Nice job sandbagger. What happened to 15 hours??? Ok…30 minutes each way and I say nice job. An hour better and I’d say you’re in the zone man. 90 minutes, that’s sandbag land.

That said…nice job drilling it. Makes me feel like a lump Grade A pork belly.

I also have to take props for the day you announced this – I TOLD you you would break 14 hours! I know appoint myself your advisor in all matters. :-)

And here I sit, reading and then typing, after doing a wee 100k on the Skyline Drive this morning. Pffft. IronFatty and IronRunner put me to shame indeed.

When Elden went out so fast on the swim, I was afraid it was gonna’ be Flameout City on the run. That did not happen and Dug cannot be embarrassed.

Ran across this photo on Wunderground last night, while check the weather at St. George, UT: http://tinyurl.com/2f854n7 It’s a picturesque scene along the bike course yesterday. In temperate conditions, who wouldn’t want to do that?

Congratulations to both of you! Eat some more, please.

    Way to go Ironfatty!

  101. Comment by Andy | 05.2.2010 | 2:42 pm

Great job you two. I know I could do it with very little trouble. Of course they would have to let me skip the Swimming and the Running parts. I would feel as though I was showing off if I did all three. That and I would be DOA after the swim.

I woke my kids up Saturday morning because I was laughing so hard when I read your “profession” on the ironman site. Your ability to have fun and entertain are incredibly admirable! I am most impressed with your split in the water, 1:20! What is your secret? Was it really the suit?

I was tweeting your splits all day, and it was tiring just to look at the numbers. Good job you animal.

congrats. so the wet suit makes you 33% faster? 80 minutes instead of 120 ? faster than the runner! I want one of those.

I was a volunteer finish line catcher as you two came through! You and all of the athletes were so inspirational to watch. Congratulations on your accomplishment!

Congrats to you guys, that is a major accomplishment! I am looking at doing an ironman sometime within the next year or two as well, and I must say you have inspired me greatly! Thanks Fatty.

It was fun keeping an eye on you two out there. Lisa was somehow easier to spot than you were… Stealth mode on your part, I guess. Finally saw you coming out of the park loop on the run. Nicely done, both of you.
