Iron Couple

05.1.2010 | 9:52 pm

Just a quick note now before I begin to eat everything that has ever existed. The Runner and I finished the St. George Ironman today, crossing the finish line together in 13:34.

For the next 36 hours, I would like you to think of me not simply as “Fatty,” but as “IronFatty.”

I’m sure some of you are wondering whether we will be doing another Ironman. To that, The Runner and I offer the following answer:

One and done.

  13. Comment by Skillethead | 05.1.2010 | 10:07 pm

Nice job sandbagger. What happened to 15 hours??? Ok…30 minutes each way and I say nice job. An hour better and I’d say you’re in the zone man. 90 minutes, that’s sandbag land.

That said…nice job drilling it. Makes me feel like a lump Grade A pork belly.

  14. Comment by Nic Grillo | 05.1.2010 | 10:09 pm

Very Awesome dude! BTW, nice job beating The Runner out of the water! That suit must have really helped!

  15. Comment by Betsy | 05.1.2010 | 10:18 pm

And you were worried about not making the swim cut off!!!! Silly Fatty. Awesome job! Now, if you are “IronFatty” does that make Runner…..”IronRunner”?

Congrats also on the ‘One and Done’ decision. I don’t know for sure, but rumor has it that ALL of those IronPersons involve swimming…yuck.

And, for that matter, running, but perhaps the Runner is ‘ok’ with that.

Fatty – great to race with you yesterday, seeing you out on the course was the highlight of the day for me and that is great that you linked up with runner later on. That was cool to meet you both over by the reservoir. My run was mostly a run, I ended up with a 4:24 and 12:32 total time.

I also have to take props for the day you announced this – I TOLD you you would break 14 hours! I know appoint myself your advisor in all matters. :-)

Major congratulations to you both…that was a brutal course to break into the sport with.

    Next stop Hawaii Ironman!!!
Hey if a Nun, and 22 other Octarians can do it, so can you IronFatty!!!
[Besides it would be nice to watch you on the tv, instead of this small computer screen that kept losing the feed! And besides it's HAWAII!!!]

Oh, and I hear a rumor that His Lanceship is doing it…up for the challenge IronFatty??????????

Well done you guys!!! So proud!

  94. Comment by Rick S. | 05.2.2010 | 12:45 pm

Congrats to both of you….so NOW can we start mountain biking together again?

  95. Comment by VA Biker | 05.2.2010 | 12:48 pm

And here I sit, reading and then typing, after doing a wee 100k on the Skyline Drive this morning. Pffft. IronFatty and IronRunner put me to shame indeed.

When Elden went out so fast on the swim, I was afraid it was gonna’ be Flameout City on the run. That did not happen and Dug cannot be embarrassed.

Ran across this photo on Wunderground last night, while check the weather at St. George, UT: It’s a picturesque scene along the bike course yesterday. In temperate conditions, who wouldn’t want to do that?

Congratulations to both of you! Eat some more, please.

Excellent work! Bravo! Congratulations. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical that you would finish (no doubts about The Runner though). I followed your progress on the Ironman site. You both rocked! Congrats again!

  100. Comment by hank | 05.2.2010 | 2:21 pm

If you would have done that in Hawaii in 1978, you would have come in 3rd in the World Championships.

    Way to go Ironfatty!

  101. Comment by Andy | 05.2.2010 | 2:42 pm

Great job you two. I know I could do it with very little trouble. Of course they would have to let me skip the Swimming and the Running parts. I would feel as though I was showing off if I did all three. That and I would be DOA after the swim.

  102. Comment by Alex | 05.2.2010 | 2:59 pm

Great job! YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!

That “one and done” thing is totally meaningless right after the event. Women say it after their first kid, too. The memory of the pain fades.

I woke my kids up Saturday morning because I was laughing so hard when I read your “profession” on the ironman site. Your ability to have fun and entertain are incredibly admirable! I am most impressed with your split in the water, 1:20! What is your secret? Was it really the suit?

  128. Comment by plum | 05.3.2010 | 7:57 am

I was tweeting your splits all day, and it was tiring just to look at the numbers. Good job you animal.

It was fun keeping an eye on you two out there. Lisa was somehow easier to spot than you were… Stealth mode on your part, I guess. Finally saw you coming out of the park loop on the run. Nicely done, both of you.
