And Now for the Actual Interview With Phil Liggett

01.18.2011 | 7:00 am

I’m in Cocoa Beach, FL all this week. So far, I have not actually been to the beach part of Cocoa Beach, because I’m working. More to the point, I’m in a conference room from early ’til late in the day. So I’m in the kind of weird position of being enviable (I’m at Cocoa Beach!) and pitiable (I may as well be in Iowa!) at the same time.

I tell you this because I am absolutely convinced that you are very interested in every single aspect of my life.

Anyway, until now I haven’t had time to upload the interview I did with Phil Liggett. And now I’ve just spent a ton of time doing the following:

  1. Learning enough about Audacity to edit out the leading and trailing stuff of the interview.
  2. Trying to get the crappy internet connection in my room to work.
  3. Uploading the MP3 file.
  4. Finding out that I am apparently technologically inept and don’t know how to set up an embedded MP3 control in a blog post.
  5. Researching how to embed a playable MP3 in a blog post.
  6. Giving up when what I tried doesn’t work.
  7. Deciding that I’ll just cheat and turn the interview into a “video” consisting of a single still photo and the audio from the interview, and then uploading it to Vimeo, because I do know how to embed video in my blog.
  8. Uploading the “video”
  9. Feeling a little bit foolish about how much time and effort I have spent on making this interview available, considering that I don’t feel like I did a very good job with the interview and that I kind of blew a big opportunity.
  10. Writing this tenth step just for the sake of having there be a nice even number of steps.

And now, at long last, here’s the interview.

“….INEPT…..”? If we were all only half as inept as you imagine how awesome WE would be. As for mt. bike trails in Florida, I tried to ride some in Ft. Meyer’s and they were ‘closed’ because of mud. Isn’t that the point? Lastly, can we get the Ligget voicemail option on “Buy Fatty Gear”?

Yah, definitely head out to Santos.. I ride there regularly, and I think they rent bikes at the santos trailhead bike shop.

An Addendum: For those Fatty’s looking to ride the GranFondo (levi’s) in October, Monday’s fiasco needed Fatty’s guiding hand, they should have asked. Nonetheless, they are opening registration up again today at noon PST. For those who rode it last year it is truly a great ride http://www.fatcyclist.com/2010/10/page/3/
Give it some thought, and give them a chance:http://www.levisgranfondo.com/

The highest point in Florida is Britton Hill at 345 ft. Not sure that qualifies as “mountain” biking.

Mtn biking in Florida, good place for a SS…hummm maybe not for you…Mr. Leadville SS. You didn’t pack your uni-cycle did you ?
Some of the ads on your site crack me up almost as much as…well I’ll leave that dangling. Ad was for Wheat Thins, “Who’s Next ?” Rollover for youtube video.
Wheat Thins, a move in the right direction.
    After Phil, Who’s next ?
and finally…the generic ‘Rollover for…’ what belly rub ? I refuse to rollover unless its a log or rock and even then I prefer flying.
Fatty, in your post you seems a little down. Call home and laugh about it. Luv U man !

I’m in Iowa Fatty. Trust me, you’d rather be there. Unless, of course, Florida has a new public works project I’m unaware of where they’ve installed ice rinks instead of sidewalks.

As a caribbean medical student I completely understand your Cocoa beach position. I’ve lived on a beautiful island for the last 18 months or so, enviable, but have spent the vast majority of that time buried in study rooms with no windows!

Elden, I hope you get a chance to see some sights. This time of year you won’t see many on the beach except for older, very pale guys in shorts and black socks. (No not Lance.) Ron Jons is a world famous surf shop bigger than you could ever imagine. If you go west a few miles there is a great restaurant called Florida Seafood. More kinds of shrimp fixed in more ways than you ever imagined!

Cocoa Beach in January…was just there. Left the blizzard in MA and ended up in freezing FLA. Cocoa was cold, cold. Spent my time at Ron Jon’s, drinking rum and a new tattoo on the ankle(Celtic Tree of Life) from The Corner Tattoo shop. A great time, you should try it.
