2014: A Quick Post About Leadville to Let You Know What’s Coming Soon

08.11.2014 | 11:05 am

I have so much to say about the 2014 Leadville 100. So much

But right now, I’ve got some real-life stuff that needs to take priority, mostly like getting caught up with work, and getting the twins off to Camp Kesem.

So for today, let me just tell you a few quick things, to give you a hint of what you’ll be hearing about soon.

  1. This was the best Leadville 100 experience I have ever had. And the same thing goes for The Hammer.
  2. The Hammer’s story is bigger and better than mine. As she and I drove home from Leadville yesterday (a seven hour drive), I sat in the passenger seat and took notes on my computer while she told me her story. The bullet-list outline is five pages long. No exaggeration, and no joke. I’m so excited for her to write it up.
  3. My story is not half bad either. And I’ll begin it in tomorrow’s post.
  4. We are going to Rebecca’s Private Idaho. And you should too. And we should hang out the night before. Or the night after. Or during the ride. Or all of the above.

And I’m happy to announce that I’ll be including a lot of incredible photography in all of the parts of this story, courtesy of the amazing Linda Guerrette

In fact, I’ll close today with a shot she took as I screamed (literally) my way down the Powerline, which is at this moment my favorite picture of me of all time.

Bring it on Fatty! I can’t wait! I had so much fun checking the splits on my breaks on Saturday. My co-workers still don’t really understand why I was spontaneously yelling “Go Hammer!” In the break room.

I sure hope there’s some great finish line photos, it sounds like an epic finish!

You looked very strong coming down Columbine, as did the Hammer with her Coach in “tow”. I was suffering up columbine as you whisked by… I wanted to yell “fatty”, but what came out was Fat Cyclist, yeah. I think my brain had already started to shut down! Well done!

I’m with Andy – really looking forward to BOTH write-ups. By my calculations, based on your historical performance, 5 pages of bullets should be about 5 weeks worth of 3-a-week blog entries….just for the Hammer’s story!

    Can’t wait!

And killer pic by the way. Are you screaming out of fear or fun?

Great to hear you’ll be at RPI. I’ll bring some pie.

so much to look forward to! Leadville AND RPI! That should take us well into September for follow up (Leadville) and pre-RPI ride then post-RPI.
Glad your ride was great. But then, any day riding is better than, well, any other day.
Great shot of Fatty, Linda Guerrette. I actually really like so much that I’m going to pin it to my “photographs” Pintrest board.

That photograph is all about timing and knowing where to be. Linda new where the light was and where Fatty would be and the result is classic. Great to see two pros at work!

Can’t wait for the write ups. Writes Up? The stories!

I think I detect an opus on Leadville 2014 is in the process of being written. Cliffhangers here we come.

I’m so stoked. My first thought when you started doing the more in depth race reports was, “I’m really excited for Fatty and The Hammer to do Leadville, I can’t wait to read those.”

Great shot. My mind is beginning to salivate with anticipation of the write-ups! (Who even knew THAT was possible!)

Is it bad that I’m most excited for The Hammer’s story? I mean, I like your Leadville stories each year, but this seems like a good year for an epic Hammer story.

Awesome rides! Kudos to The Hammer and Fatty and thanks to Rebecca for what a great job she did prepping The Hammer and sticking with her through the day.

Great photo! You have us anxiously awaiting the 2014 LT100 series. Write on!

Love reading your post! IS there any chance of me getting a copy of the Queen of Pains book?

Wow, riding the LT on 53 GI. That’s some big gearing. I barely get up stuff on 46 GI around the Wasatch Front. Can’t imagine going much bigger. Great job on the sub 9 finish.

Can’t wait for the stories! When is The Hammer going pro? She’s obviously near that level. Way to go to both (all three) of you!

Can’t wait. From what I’ve seen so far, it looks like it was tremendous on all fronts.

Great job in Leadsville Fatty, and The Hammer! This was my first experience at Leadville, and I was amazed by how great every one was. I volunteered at a few different locations and the riders were great. I look forward to joining the fraternity of riders.

Can’t wait. Team Fatty and the race reports have inspired more than a few of us to actually give racing a go. I am pleased to note that in fine Team Fatty tradition I led everyone off course in my first race this evening.

Fatty, what day are you heading to Sun Valley? I live in Rupert….on the way. I am not doing RPI, but what would you think about meeting up at my fave restaurant on your way, in Heyburn? I could show you a short cut to get to SV.

  19. Comment by MattC | 08.12.2014 | 12:52 pm

Way to Go Jeremy (leading everybody off course)! In my defense, the girl in the intersection (was it a roundabout? I can’t recall) DID tell us to go right, when what she MEANT was for us to stay right but go straight (pretty sure we didn’t really need her to tell us not to go directly straight-thru and crash, OR to go around the stuff and still go straight) ….so Greg and I did just that (GO right), leading about half of Team Fatty the wrong way (was that the first year of Davis? Gosh…details are fading).

Could you add a “like” tab to your posts, ala the dreaded FB? I’d use it frequently!

Love reading these reports from Fatty and the team. Can’t wait to read about Leadville. Hopefully it will inspire me to get out there now that the colder weather is closing in.
