Sneak Peek for Monday (Was: the Weekend)

03.6.2015 | 12:23 pm

A Note from Fatty: I’m still working on finalizing the design for some of the 2015 Fat Cyclist gear, and also I’ve got a lot of workish stuff to take care of today. And also I think probably a lot of you didn’t see this last Friday or during the weekend.

But here’s a little extra something for those of you who had visited — what the shorts will look like:

Screenshot 2015 03 09 08 45 15

And yes, there will be women’s bibs too. And women’s shorts. And women’s jerseys.

And a lot more.

Meanwhile, check the comments; I’ve answered a lot of questions. And if you have additional questions, ask away; I’ll be checking several times today and will be as non-cagey with my answers as I can be.

Sneak Peek

I’ll have more to show on this next later this week, but a lot of people have been asking about when / whether there’s going to be  new FatCyclist.com gear this year.

There is. And (as of this morning), the jersey design is final:

2015 FATCYCLIST.COM Jersey: Front View

I love this design, and I’m very excited to have the World Bicycle Relief logo on the jersey this year, in honor of The Thompsons and me being WBR Athlete Ambassadors this year.

I’ll have a lot to reveal next week, and may even reveal some very cool surprises (like, for example, the way Dave Thompson and I are cooking up a contest together, with an outrageous grand prize).

For now, though, I’m just going to let you spend some time getting used to the awesomeness of the FatCyclist and WBR logos sharing colors and space on a jersey.

PS: Just in case you’re wondering what the pattern on the bottom part of the jersey is, here’s a detail view:

    That’s your best design yet…

It will also be my best-made jerseys yet. DNA is high-end bike gear; I’ve been looking forward to working with them on a project for a while.

FWIW, the jersey designer is Jonny Hintze, recently of ENVE. He (very obviously) has some serious design chops. – FC

    Agree w/ Hamer…the BEST!

And can’t tell you how awesome it is that you’re teaming up with Dave for your contest…I have been saving my $ so that I could buy a bike from each of your WBR pages (I was assuming that Dave doesn’t going to have your “superpower” of getting great things for your contest…but I could be wrong). No matter…very excited for what’s to come! (and I WILL be getting the new jersey, you can take THAT to the bank!)

Let’s just say that, at this point, the winner of the Thompson/Fatty contest will very likely get to take a trip to a very nice bike shop, where s/he will be fitted to her/his very nice new bike, after which s/he will be taken to a very nice place to ride on that very nice new bike with a couple of very nice guys, each of which has some very nice specialties with the grill.

    Interested? – FC

sheesh…my typing …”doesn’t going to have”? That’s what happens when my mind is running faster than my fingers (and then I go back and change something, but don’t finish proofing the ‘rest’). Let’s go with “doesn’t have”, shall we?

    oooooooooooohhhhh mannnnnnnn….

  5. Comment by J | 03.6.2015 | 1:34 pm

Is that WBR logo also a little flag on the arm?

No, it’s an actual wing and will make you fly. – FC

oh also, Full kit? can’t look pro without socks, bibs, and a hat, bro.

Yup, full kit. Bibs are already designed and go perfectly with the jersey. This weekend we’re finalizing design on:
    – Long sleeve jersey
    – Vest
    – Arm warmers
    – Socks
    – Hoodie
    – Cycling cap
    – Tee shirts
And there will be two different fits for the jerseys: One kind for racers, one kind for a looser, more recreational fit.

Jerseys, bibs, shorts will be handmade in Italy. For reals. Delivery will be in May.

    I’m very excited about this.

    Great looking jersey, Fatty!

    way, stinking cool!

  9. Comment by Frank | 03.6.2015 | 2:39 pm

Love the colors and the modern look. Kudos to the designer(s)

  10. Comment by Brian in VA | 03.6.2015 | 3:29 pm

    That is totally happening, Fatty!

My wife and I have been assembling tax documents today and realized that we didn’t contribute to WBR last year (hanging heads in shame) despite the fact that we discussed it. We’ll be double dipping this year to catch up.

Can’t wait to get that kit!

  11. Comment by Cyclingjimbo | 03.6.2015 | 4:21 pm

Ooh, golly. Or, as Roger Miller sings, “Oo-De-Lally, Oo-De-Lally, Golly what a day!”

I have retired since your last contest, and I will be saving up my WBR donation funds until the details come out. Looking forward to the details.

In any case, the New Jersey design rocks. I like the color shift – a whole new reason in itself to buy one of the 2015 jerseys.

  12. Comment by ClydeinKS | 03.6.2015 | 4:52 pm

You make it difficult to talk when you cause my jaw to drop and mouth gape open in awe. But I’m TYPING and apparently the jaw drop of awesomeness also alters brain function beyond saying awesome. Well done, hopefully the price point will be similar to the previous kits?

  13. Comment by J | 03.6.2015 | 5:02 pm

A prize featuring “Food With Fattie” … Sounds like a great prize!

  14. Comment by Cyclingjimbo | 03.6.2015 | 5:14 pm

Sorry – new jersey, not New Jersey. Stupid autocorrect.

  15. Comment by Stephanie | 03.6.2015 | 5:14 pm

    FANCY!!!

  16. Comment by PNP | 03.6.2015 | 6:13 pm

    What, no pie?

Oh wait, that’s why I can’t wear jerseys.

    Never mind.

  17. Comment by Amy Thompson | 03.6.2015 | 8:46 pm

Fatty you rock! I don’t know which I love more, the new jersey or the contest with Dave! We will for sure be getting a family set of the new jerseys.
As for the contest, I may even enter myself, although I’m not sure how that would work. :)

    Secret Hidden Message?

  19. Comment by J | 03.7.2015 | 8:40 am

“Be sure to drink your Ovaltine”

  20. Comment by davidh-Marin,ca | 03.7.2015 | 10:46 am

Like the idea @J, but given al the ‘new’ look of this kit the message will probably involve Red Bull and Wings.

  21. Comment by AKChick | 03.7.2015 | 10:57 am

Love it! I kinda miss the pink though. :) Will there be male/female fits or are the jerseys men’s sizes? I’d REALLY love to win the contest now. :) Seems like the Thompsons were in Davis the last time I was there…or maybe Austin. So psyched for them!

There will be male / female fits. In fact, there will be a more thorough women’s selection than ever before, including women’s shorts, women’s bibs, and women’s jerseys. – FC

  22. Comment by Buddha | 03.7.2015 | 2:31 pm

Great jersey! Can’t wait to see the contest specs!

  23. Comment by Big Nasty | 03.7.2015 | 5:36 pm

Is there a design on the back of the jersey?

There is. I’ll be revealing all very soon. – FC

  24. Comment by wharton_crew | 03.9.2015 | 9:46 am

DNA makes great gear…high end…very Rapha-esque. I feel my Assos luxury body will be well served (sarcasm).

I almost hesitate to ask, but is Twin Six still a FoF? I noticed they don’t have any FC gear now on their website – they used to always have odd sizes for a variety of FC stuff, but no more.

  25. Comment by Tom in Albany | 03.9.2015 | 10:21 am

Will it say “Win Like Susan” or “Fight Like Susan” anywhere on the Jersey?

    Of course! – FC

This statement makes me a little nervous.

  28. Comment by Clydesteve | 03.9.2015 | 11:04 am

Wordpress told me I made a duplicate statement,(the quote from Fatty), and would not proceed to publish. So I changed it. then it published both, making me feel foolish. Thanks Wordpress. Kind of like getting caught by autocorrect.

I wish we had editing/delete capability for our own comments…(FATTY?)…was wondering what was up with your similar but not quite dual comments Steve.

I really need to update the whole site, and especially the comments system. – FC

Can you give us a State of the Union on Twin Six and Fatty relationship?

I love Twin Six and will always love Twin Six. I’m also, however, friends with DNA — which is a local company made up of guys I ride with. I’ve been a huge fan for a long time of the quality of gear DNA produces, too. Meanwhile, I’ve never been as much of a fan of the quality of the gear produced by the vendor T6 uses, nor the long timelines I had to deal with.

I also have been wanting to work with Jonny H, an amazing local designer, for quite a while.

Finally, Twin 6 let me know late last year that my projects are very labor-intensive and that to keep doing things for me, they’d need a bigger piece of the pie.

With all this in mind, it seemed like a good opportunity to let T6 focus more on new projects that interest them (like the very cool bikes they’re now building and selling), and for me to try a designer and apparel company that I admire.

Thanks for shedding light on the T6 status Fatty…been wondering about that for a while now.

On a side note, just found out this morning that I’m headed back up to Sunnvyale (San Jose) for work at the end of March for 3 weeks…so to all you FOF’s up in that area, I’ll be LOOKING TO RIDE! (I’m working days, M-F, get off @ 3pm just fyi). So I’ll be itching to ride the Skyline Rd area (up out of Saratoga) on the road bike, and the Saratoga Gap trails (top of Hwy 9 out of Saratoga)on the MTB.

And it looks like I’ll have weekends off for a change, so I plan on doing some longer rides. So anybody wants to join me give me a shout…company is always awesome! Riding in redwoods is about as cool as it gets…there’s so much awesome road and trail up there, it just blows my mind. If only I could afford to live there (and obviously I’d need to own a helicopter to get to/fm work).

Matt, while I don’t live in SJ anymore (insert heartbreak here), I do recommend that you do the following rides: Skyline Rd (watch for cars, it’s narrow)San Jose to Monterrey via Mt Madonna and WatsonvilleMetcalf roadMt Hamilton, if you like to climb and sufferMt Tam (up in Marin County)Color me jealous!

Weird, html formatting didn’t work. Let’s try it this way.

I do recommend that you do the following rides:

    * Skyline Rd (watch for cars, it’s narrow)
    * San Jose to Monterrey via Mt Madonna and Watsonville
    * Metcalf road
    * Mt Hamilton, if you like to climb and suffer
    * Mt Tam (up in Marin County)

    Color me jealous!

Being an Italian living in China, I’ve never bought anything for fear of customs hussles. But now I read ‘Made in Italy’, can I get my order shipped directly from the producer? This would be a big plus for me! (I don’t ride, btw, does this give me some points?)

Awesome kit! Can’t wait to get my hands on one!
Any NorCal fatty heading to Sea Otter this year?

  37. Comment by Matt Gibbs | 03.11.2015 | 2:22 pm

Fatty, I love the design of the jersey. It kind of reminds me of a jersey that I already own from Wolfbike. Seeing that your still in the designing process, you should take a look at my jersey for some inspiration. Now that I mentioned it, there is a red stripe that makes a 90 degree angle on my jersey, It would be sooooo cool if could turn that into a Giant “F” for Fat Cyclist! Just my two cents lol.

  38. Comment by Steve Costanzo | 03.13.2015 | 6:10 am

Fatty, if you’re going to offer a clothing line that says “Fat Cyclist” on it, then you ought to offer sizes that fit fat cyclists. A 2x maximum size is somewhere between a disappointment and a slap in the face for truly fat cyclists.

You’re right, and I’m happy to be able to let you know that this year, I’ll be offering jersey sizes up to 4XL. Come back Monday for the big reveal and product launch! – FC

I love it! T6 has always been classy. A huge thank you to them for all the goodness they put out there. And welcome to the new company.

I recently started following FatCyclist and have to admit that I got hooked by the good humour and good causes.

Having said that, for how much does these usually retail?

I would love to get one, but it might be out of my budget.

    Thanks
