New FattyCast: Chatting With 2015 Dirty Kanza Winner, Yuri Hauswald

12.15.2015 | 2:00 pm

20141109 065 0095I am having a lot of fun with FattyCast, my new podcast. It’s a chance for me to do something new, which doesn’t happen all that often after ten (closer to eleven now) years of blogging. I’m talking with very interesting people. I’m hearing amazing stories. I’m learning a lot.

The latest episode of the FattyCast is with Yuri Hauswald, the winner of the 2015 Dirty Kanza. But Yuri’s a lot more than a pro cyclist. He works full-time as the cycling community manager for Gu Energy. He writes. He raises money for good causes.

He’s strong, like bull.

I really enjoyed talking with Yuri, and I’m confident you’ll enjoy listening. For reals.

Here’s where you can find the FattyCast with Yuri:

Who’s Next? You Tell Me.

I’m really excited about the guests I’ve got lined up in the upcoming weeks (I’m actually conducting an interview every day this week, so will have quite a few backlogged for editing). And I’m tempted to tell you who they are. But I’m not going to, at least not yet.

However

So far people have been really generous with their time. When I reach out, it’s been pretty rare for people to say “no.” So. If there’s someone you would like me to reach out to, let me know. If I think to myself, “Yeah, I’d like to ask that person questions for an hour or so,” I’ll do it. Especially if you have contact info.

Meanwhile, enjoy this episode (and please, if you’re using iTunes, do me the favor of leaving a review, OK?)!

Lance. Just because your dynamic might be different than anyone else’s. You raised tons for LiveStrong, you knew him personally, you rode with him a few times. I’d like to listen to how you’d interact with him on all those levels. But more importantly, I’d like to see what he’s doing now, how he’s trying to repair the damage to his life, reputation, foundation (of which he’s no longer a part), etc.

Because after all is said and done, I still am a fan of Lance the cancer-fighter, in spite of Lance the ex-racer.

Am I the only crazy one here, or are there others who might find this fascinating.

I’d be pretty interested in talking with Lance at some point. I’d need to think pretty hard about what I wanted from the conversation, though, which would be a lot different than most of the calls I’m doing…where it’s just a fun, free-flowing chat. – FC

you sell yourself short as a podcast producer. I have listened to both and they are really high quality. I love them. keep it up.

@wharton_crew, I second the Lance suggestion.

I’m still a fan of both Lance the cancer-fighter AND Lance the bike racer. It’s Lance the bully that I despise.

Brian Steele (from Inspired to Ride). The guy is hilarious.

Danny MacAskill. I would love to know how he can do such exposure riding.
Loved hearing Yuri talk about his Dirty Kanza race. Can’t believe it came down to a spring after 200 miles of sufferfest. Good work, Fatty!

Martyn Ashton – MacAskill but with the life-changing injury.

I also think Ted King would be entertaining.

I just heard Ted King talk at Landry’s Bicycles in Boston. Agreed, he’d be a great podcast interview–knowledgeable, insightful, funny, self-deprecating.

Tinker Juarez – he has been around so long and still competing at a high level in the NUE Series, would be interested in hearing from him.

    Bob Roll!

He has spoken at a local bike shop a few times now (when he was in town for the Tour of Cali…the last time sadly was a few years back now).

BOY is he GREAT to listen to! He has fantastic stories about his cycling career, and then his broadcasting career (working w/ Phil and Paul gives him TONS of funny stories/insights!)

Oh, and I also agree on hearing Lance…TOTALLY agree w/ JeffD!

Oh…and Chris Horner! I’m SURE he has tons of interesting insight/stories, AND he’s a great speaker!

Amanda Batty, Rebecca Rusch, Ted King, Jens Voight (yes I know there is some pie in the sky there but hey, you never know), Sonya Looney. Chris Horner would be AMAZING. He was such a nice guy when I met him. Chatted with this starstruck fan for 45 minutes, and was sweet and genuine. I’d love a podcast with Levi too oh and his wife would be amazing. I know there are more, but I can’t think of them off the top of my head. I would love to hear from Ted King. He is such an all around great guy and gives so much of himself to various events. Seems like a pretty fun dude too. :) Thanks for asking!

OH MY GOSH – I should read the comments first – YES PLEASE Danny MacAskill! He is one crazy guy! Oh my gosh. Would love to hear from him. And Ted King. And Chris Horner. And Amanda Batty (she is my current super girl bike crush).

Tinker, Ted King, Danny Mac, and Martyn Ashton are all PHENOMENAL suggestions. I met and talked with Leah and F.K. Day from WBR on monday… PERFECT subjects for a fattycast.

All the suggestions are great. I’d also love to hear you talk with Jill Homer, Ezster Horanyi, and Lael Wilcox.

Really enjoying the podcast so far, and I’m excited to read your books! I just got them from Amazon, but I have to survive the last two days of elementary school before Christmas break before I have time to read them.

How about Ned Overend? Like Tinker, he has been racing mtn. bikes longer than you! And he could talk about Specialized bikes, too.

  22. Comment by Cat | 12.17.2015 | 1:11 pm

Would love to hear from Nicholas Carman and Lael Wilcox.

  23. Comment by John | 12.19.2015 | 6:00 pm

I second Ned or Todd wells.
