A Get-Well Card for Kathryn Bertine

04.5.2016 | 10:03 am

NewImage

I am a big fan of Kathryn Bertine: her writing style, her friendliness, her passion for making a difference for good in the world.

So I’m very upset to hear she was seriously injured in a big finish-line pileup in the Vuelta Feminil Internacional.

You can read the report of what happened — and what little we so far know — in the VeloNews report here

What I’d like Friends of Fatty to do today is use my comments area as a big Get-Well Card for Kathryn. Let her know you care about her, admire her, and are thinking about her.

PS: If you aren’t familiar with Kathryn, let me recommend my recent post about her and FattyCast with her.

Hey, see if you can recruit the US Women’s National Team to your team!

    Kathryn,

Here’s hoping for a swift and complete recovery! Bikes are the best, and it sucks when we get hurt by something we love.

Kathryn – Best of luck to you. I’ve been a fan for a long time. I spotted a rider in an odd kit on the road once near Pedals and Petals in Inlet – not too many St Kitts and Nevis national team members in the ADK.
Get well soon, I’ll keep an eye out for you on rte 28.

My first exposure to her was her So You Want to Be an Olympian series on ESPN.Com several years ago. I loved those articles and looked forward to them each installment. She’s an excellent writer and it was her writing that made me root for her as a cyclist. I really hope she makes a full recovery.

So sorry to hear about your crash, Kathryn, and really hope you are better and back in the saddle quickly.

@BostonCarlos said it right – doing the things we love shouldn’t get us hurt. That really sucks.

    Feel. Better. Soon.
