Announcing the 2008 Fat Cyclist Jerseys and T-Shirts!

01.30.2008 | 10:34 pm

OK, I’ve been a tease this week, showing a little here, a little there, of the new 2008 Fat Cyclist jerseys.

But I’m not going to tease any more, mostly for the reason that I’m absolutely certain that you’re just going to scroll down and look at the pictures anyway.

So check ‘em out already!

Men’s Jerseys
First off, I love the 2007 Fat Cyclist jerseys, and wanted the 2008 version to have a look and feel that definitely didn’t forget its roots. But I also love the rough, painted look that Twin Six has been experimenting with on some of their other jerseys.

So here’s the front (all images in today’s post pop to larger versions):

T6_FatCyclist08_F
And here’s the back:

 T6_FatCyclist08_B

And here’s the inside of the collar:

FC_collar

Women’s Jerseys
I learned my lesson with the 2007 Fat Cyclist jerseys: don’t ignore the women. Here is the women’s cut and colors for 2008. Front:

T6_FatCyclistF

And back:

T6_FatCyclistB

Note: I’m also doing a very small run of men’s-cut jerseys in pink. As in, if you want one, you’ll need to order it the day they’re available.

T-Shirts: Available TODAY
To go along with the 2008 jersey design, I’ve got a new Fat Cyclist T-shirt design. Unlike the jerseys, however, these are in stock and available today.

Men’s (click here for the order page):

 FC_MTf FC_MTb

Women’s: (click here for the order page):

FC_WTf FC_WTb

Note: We’re retiring the old version (2007) Fat Cyclist T-shirt by putting it on sale for $15.00, starting now. Get one before they’re gone.

Q&A
I figure there are going to be some questions about the new design, so lemme see how good I am at pretending I know what you’re going to ask.

Are you still using money from the jerseys to support Susan’s treatment and the Lance Armstrong Foundation?
Yes, Twin Six will donate some of their profit from all Fat Cyclist gear — jerseys, t-shirts, socks, and bottles — to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. And I put all my profits into a separate bank account Susan and I keep for cancer treatment and the trip to Italy. No matter what color you buy, you’re helping out exactly the same amount.

When will the jerseys be available?
They should be arriving in April. Which means they’ll probably actually arrive in May. Regardless, I will post on my blog as soon as they arrive, so that you can get the size and style you want.

And, as I mentioned above, the t-shirts are available as of now. And since Twin Six is having its Spring 4-Day Sale, now might be a good chance for you to snag one while you pick up another great jersey at a great price. Click here for men’s, and click here for women’s.

How many jerseys did you order?
Enough that I lose sleep at night, alternately worrying that I bought too many, too few, or the wrong combination of colors, genders, and sizes.

Who’s shipping the T-shirts and jerseys? Twin Six, or Fatty?
I asked Twin Six to do all the fulfillment this time. I’d rather use any spare time I can find to go out on a ride, or hang out with my family. You may find it difficult to believe, but between my job, my family, Susan’s treatment, and this blog, I occasionally find myself somewhat short on time.

How much will the jerseys cost?
$70.00, just like the other Twin Six jerseys.

How’d you get the painted style to look so authentic?
The idea behind this look was to replicate the painted-on images appearing on leather jackets in the 50’s. So the master design is actually hand-painted. Of course, the jerseys are still sublimated polyester microfiber, but they look painted.

Is this the sexiest jersey ever made?
I daresay.

I love the new pink jersey. Those guys and Twin Six definitely have style.

I’m really glad everyone will receive a message for Susan. I will miss the good doctor, however.

what a great way to get us (who want jerseys) to keep reading the site, give us a limited edition jersey, youve got to let us know what it goes on sale.

i wants me a pink jersey but having man parts ill need a male,

thanks fatty, keep on keeping on.

  4. Comment by Ant | 01.30.2008 | 11:35 pm

Elden I trust you’ll keep up apprised of when to order said jerseys. They look the goods! I can’t wait to see what strange looks I get wearing it around our little ‘ol country town.

  5. Comment by TP | 01.30.2008 | 11:35 pm

Oooh, you need to read what BSNYC says about URLs in bikes. I’d say it applies to clothing too.

    http://bikesnobnyc.blogspot.com/2008/01/more-bsnyc-infrequently-asked-questions.html

Without that big horse and the “.com” this would be brilliant. But the colors don’t match my Bianchi, so none of this matters.

  6. Comment by TP | 01.30.2008 | 11:37 pm

Actually… I missed the note about pink men’s shirts. That might go quite well with Celeste.

  7. Comment by Mike from Melbourne | 01.31.2008 | 12:30 am

They look great. I have the original orange so I think I need a pink jersey this year.

  8. Comment by buckythedonkey | 01.31.2008 | 12:45 am

Fantastic, absolutely bloody fantastic! Oh, and I’m very glad indeed to hear that you’re doing pink in men’s sizes/cut too. It’ll be a pleasure to support you again this year, mate.

    > Without that big horse … this would be brilliant.

Lose the Clydesdale? Surely not! ;-)

    > the colors don’t match my Bianchi,

I was rather hoping that Fatty would do an Italian-themed jersey at some point (could be Azure blue, or maybe tricolore)… I’m also hoping that the good Doctor will feature again in the future.

Well done Elden – these are a triumph! Have you considered setting up a mailing list so that you can spam us all when the jersies go on sale?

  9. Comment by Jake | 01.31.2008 | 1:42 am

    Curses.

It won’t let me submit a vote, saying I have to ‘revise my ballot’.

    Perhaps they’re running scared? ;)

  10. Comment by radirpok | 01.31.2008 | 2:20 am

Can someone please tell me what is a prancing horse doing on the “fat cyclist” jersey? I might have missed the explanation the first time. Thanks.

  11. Comment by Born 4Lycra 43 11 N 2 32 W | 01.31.2008 | 3:23 am

I’ll leave the explanation of the Clydesdale to those better placed to explain it although I believe the Clydesdale is the category for racing for us bigger boned riders in the US. Correct somebody?

I have to be honest – I really don’t like the style “rough painted” but I do like the less black and more orange (or pink). Most importantly I do believe in what the shirt means, represents and supports so I will be definitely buying one anyway.

TP I’m not sure any colour goes well with celeste but my friends reckon nothing I wear when riding my bike coordinates and to be honest looking around at other riders I did not realise it was supposed too. My bike however is Orange and Black so I might get it right this time and with the 07 versions of the FC top.

FC do we have any idea of the price? Sorry if you have mentioned this previously already.

  12. Comment by Philly Jen | 01.31.2008 | 3:30 am

    Love. It.

  13. Comment by radirpok | 01.31.2008 | 3:51 am

OK, so Clydesdale was the keyword, and google is my friend (if I know what to look for…), thanks again! :-)

  14. Comment by Mike Roadie | 01.31.2008 | 4:11 am

Since I can’t wait for April, my order is in for the T-Shirt, at least i can be up-to-date as I represent around town!
    Thanks, Elden!

  15. Comment by Paul | 01.31.2008 | 5:03 am

Love the new design, and you’ve got my vote!

  16. Comment by John | 01.31.2008 | 5:28 am

Very, very nice. Good job, Elden! I’ll be ordering as soon as I can.

  17. Comment by Wheels | 01.31.2008 | 5:30 am

Looks sweet! Thanks for remembering us ladies this time.

  18. Comment by Susan (another one) | 01.31.2008 | 5:45 am

Women’s only comes in pink. How sad.

  19. Comment by Pammap | 01.31.2008 | 5:52 am

You have my vote (sorry for procrastinating) and I love, love, love the new jerseys. My wedding anniversary is in April. I think my husband and I would look svelte in matching (him-orange, me-pink) FC jerseys, don’t you? Oh yeah!

  20. Comment by Don (cyclingphun.blogspot.com) | 01.31.2008 | 6:06 am

Best freaking jersey EVER! I really like the new designs.
Yeah, I’ll have to jump on a mens pink this time.
You just like saying sublimated, don’t you?

  21. Comment by fatty | 01.31.2008 | 6:09 am

susan (another one) – the color restrictions are because i am not a giant bike clothing company. if i were to do every color in every gender in every size, the number of variations would be as follows:

2 genders x 2 colors x 6 sizes = 24 jersey variations. that would be OK if i were a clothing store; I could probably buy enough of each of the 24 variations to be sure there was a good chance the one you want is available.

but i’m not a clothing store. i’m one guy, with a blog. so if i did every color/size/gender combination, i’d only be able to do very few of any given size/gender/color quantity. the chances of you getting the cut and size you want would go way down. so i had to make some compromises, which basically came down to only doing women’s in pink, and only doing a very tiny run of mens in pink.

so i went the way i did. i did pink for women not because pink is a girlie color, but because pink is for fighting breast cancer. i also figured that women who want an orange jersey can still get one; they’ll just have to go with the mens sizing, as they probably do on at least some of their jerseys anyway. and i figured that men who want a pink jersey can hustle to get one of the very few in that color I’m having made.

    make sense?

radirpok – the horse is indeed a clydesdale, which is also the term for heavier racers. as a symbol of heavier racers go, i think it’s preferable to a barcalounger.

jake – if it’s telling you to revise your ballot, it means you have to fill in the “captcha” box at the bottom of the page — the text box with the couple of blurry, crossed-out words. it’s an aggravating, confusing message. i wonder how many thousands of people have not submitted a ballot because they’ve been confounded by that stupid captcha field.

tp – i understand bsnyc’s point about urls, but i think i might safely claim an exception, since the only thing i have is an internet site as opposed to using my internet site to sell whatever it is i make. do you think if i just put “fat cyclist” on the jersey, anyone at all would think “hey, i ought to go to fatcyclist.com and see what that’s about?” cuz i think they’d just go, “huh, a guy who thinks he’s fat.” i think about this kind of thing, man.

ant – i will definitely keep you apprised of when the jerseys are coming. probably to the point you get sick of it.

Oh, I thought it was a Fresian. Actually, I thought it was a pimp of an Italian sports car logo because you have this Italy thing going.
Now I understand. And there is a logic to it.
Must start saving allowance for splurge. I do like this women’s design with more color.
Thanks for the heads up on the sale priced stuff, too.

  24. Comment by Canadian Roadie | 01.31.2008 | 7:17 am

Love it! Please let us know when we can order! Women’s med. please! I’ll just have to get a tee in the meantime.

  25. Comment by eclaire | 01.31.2008 | 7:51 am

to susan(another one) i bought a men’s jersey last year (size small) so i could have the original orange. it fit fine, and dare i say, i liked the fit better than the women’s medium in pink. the men’s is a little more sleek. having said that though, i’m all over the new women’s design. LOVE IT! i want it now! twin six rocks and i hope they mail out the new t-shirts faster than fatty can inhale a bag o’ reeses pieces! susan: continue to get better, sending all positive thoughts your way! Italy ‘08!

  26. Comment by Dan K | 01.31.2008 | 8:08 am

Love the jersey. I’m generally not a jersey guy, and wish the t-shirts were made of some wicking sporting type fabric, but I may have to just get a jersey a size or two too big to support the cause. Have fun at the race Saturday. Just keep spinnin, just keep spinnin… (key “finding nemo” keep swimmin tune)

  27. Comment by KanyonKris | 01.31.2008 | 8:25 am

While I liked (and agree with) BSNYC’s jabs at URLs on bikes, I agree with Fatty that adding the .com on the jersey makes sense, as I thought it confusing to just have “Fat Cyclist” on the jersey. FatCyclist.com is primarily (only?) a community on the internet and it makes sense to have the .com. I didn’t like the old jerseys text because I’ve never been fat (but I do have my “problem areas”) and I thought people might assume that I used to be heavy but lost a lot of weight and then I’d have to explain the whole FatCyclist.com blog thing to them which many people wouldn’t really get anyway. So for me, the .com makes it easier for people who see the jersey to instantly understand it’s an internet thing, and if they want to know more they can look it up.

  28. Comment by Susan (another one) | 01.31.2008 | 8:26 am

Totally understand about limits. I do have the original pink lemonade jersy which is the only pink jersey I own.

  29. Comment by DNAtsol | 01.31.2008 | 8:42 am

Gotta say I am stoked on the ‘08 design. I lusted after the speedy ‘08 jersey for Christmas (which I received and is assume despite the tiny bit ‘o’ belly pauch that still shows – I said hello to my little nalini for a nice fix tho’).

It, and this ‘08 FC, has that garage/handmade feel to it. It reminds me of the little guy. While he may not have race sponsors, he thinks, “I’m a great racer dagnabit so I’m going to make my own jersey!”

The jersey is now my motivator. I shall complete a century by April to justify yet another jersey. I don’t think Fan of Susan can begrudge me an FC ‘08 if I put in that kind of effort :)

  30. Comment by DNAtsol | 01.31.2008 | 8:45 am

Doh! Awesome not assume…. even after proof reading, apparently my paunch flew up over my eyes on that part :)

  31. Comment by mark | 01.31.2008 | 8:51 am

Like the new jerseys and will be ordering myself one as soon as they’re available.

On another note, is the plan still on for the big MTB race on Saturday? There’s a lot of snow on the ground, so I’m inclined to ski rather than ride.

  32. Comment by UtRider | 01.31.2008 | 9:11 am

Sorry to be a contrarian but I much prefer last years design. I think cursive writing needs to go away forever… Anyway, I would love to purchase a 2007 jersey but since those are no longer available I’m out of luck. Unless, that is, somebody who loves the new jersey wants to sell their ‘07 to make way for the ‘08. If you are interested in selling a Mens size = Large Fat Cyclist jersey from last year (orange or pink both work for me) link to my site and shoot me an email. Thanks!

  33. Comment by KT | 01.31.2008 | 9:15 am

    Yay!!!

I love the new design…. I got the Pink WIN one last year in a large, and can safely say that I might need a medium by the time they get shipped.

While I did like the roomy feel of the large– and don’t get me wrong, I like the loose feel, especially on hot days– a medium would fit a tad better.

Am I saving my money? Oh yeah. I’m even putting off purchases of luxury items right now so I can have the funds to get a new jersey. :)

Hope you win a Bloggie! My best to Susan!

  34. Comment by Lyne | 01.31.2008 | 10:05 am

Okey doke got myself a new tshirt, and while I was at it, got some of the twin size tshirts ;) will get a jersey when they are available, not sure if women or men as I do like the burnt orange color… mmm will have to see.

  35. Comment by SurlyCommuter | 01.31.2008 | 10:07 am

Love the new design… bought both last year’s T-Shirt (on sale) and this years, also the proud owner of an O7 Pink Mens jersey and I must say – I look quite strapping in it (as apposed to strapped into it) Good Times Fatty… my best to Susan too.

  36. Comment by Little1 | 01.31.2008 | 10:18 am

oh grief… and the forex just went screwy on me… hopefully it will have recovered by the time the jerseys can be ordered!

  43. Comment by Clydesteve | 01.31.2008 | 2:53 pm

This is an excellent design. I can’t believe that someone did not get the clydesdale is a over 200 lb (fat) cyclist thing. I get high acclaim for my FC jerseys wherever I ride them.

I really like that the ‘08 Tees have more on the front.

The picture on my site (link below) for the LIVESTRONG 2008 Portland ride was taken in poor lighting, and is a lousy pic, but at least I had my Pink FC jersey on:

Jersey’s are sweet. I have the 07, and I’ll get the 08, and the 09, etc. It’ll be a tradition. Hope you and the misses are well.

  45. Comment by JET(not a nickname) | 01.31.2008 | 3:23 pm

You all outdid yourselves with the jersey. I’m sure I’ll be saying that about each and every one. I’ll definaetly be getting one of ‘em.

  46. Comment by Karyn | 01.31.2008 | 4:24 pm

Ordered the Fat Cyclist(W) tee the minute I saw it on your website. Cracks me up that my chest will be emblazoned with “FAT CYCLIST” on it. I also picked up a few Twin Six jerseys to support the guys over there. Love the new Fat Cyclist jersey – I better get one cuz I missed the last version! If you don’t have an email list, maybe Twin Six can send out an email to their customers when it comes in. (I got their email about the sale that started today.)

I have to say, I really love your website. It feels like family when I come to visit. Whether you get the Bloggie or not, you are a WINNER to everyone who visits your website every day.

After reading the references to The Good Doctor who is missing from this jersey, I re-read your “Wit and Wisdom of Dr. Michael Lämmler” (http://www.fatcyclist.com/2006/01/16/the-wit-and-wisdom-of-dr-michael-lmmler/) and must agree with the earlier postings. The Good Doctor’s assertions (and your responses) should not be forgotten. Perhaps in 2009 we’ll have a female-cut jersey that allows for an increase in turbulence in little “genius minds” via the spalming of balls in lieu of the spalming of butts?

Do I have to give a DNA sample, my fist-born child, my next-door neighbors cat? Tell me PLEASE!
I absolutely want one to wear on club rides this season-especially now! Nothing would be sweeter than leading a ride wearing a big ‘old Clydesdale on your back.
What a great design and a greater cause.
