Happy Halloween

10.31.2008 | 9:48 am

It’s been a draining week. Let’s finish with something good. The twins’ Halloween costumes.

Katie’s a princess.

IMG_0075 (2)
Yes, a 7-year-old girl being a princess for Halloween. Unbelievable.

Carrie’s a sorceress.

IMG_0073 (2)
Note that she is not a witch. I am not clear on the distinction, but she is emphatic.

Happy Halloween!

Great job on the costumes! You will score a lot of candy tonight!

  8. Comment by XCTiger | 10.31.2008 | 10:04 am

Hope there’s lots of treats this weekend. It’s hard to believe they’re twins. Am I right in guessing they both want to be actresses? They sure are acting their parts exceptionally well.

  9. Comment by Barb | 10.31.2008 | 10:08 am

Well of course she’s a sorceress. Anyone can tell that. And your Princess is more than beautiful. Treats!

kanyonkris, did you just call elden “Darling”?

    Wanda. Darling.

the difference between a witch and a sorceress is the difference between a garbage man and a sanitation engineer. which would YOU rather be.

  15. Comment by Heatherann | 10.31.2008 | 10:15 am

They look adorable. I hope you all have a wonderful evening.
    God bless,
    *hugs*

  16. Comment by Gillian | 10.31.2008 | 10:15 am

Clearly, the distinction involves the astrological symbols on her cloak. A witch wouldn’t be caught dead in anything but straight black. And also, sorceress rhymes with princess – vital in a twin costuming scenario.

This year I am Sarah Palin, you bet! Heck yah! Happy Halloween, from me and Todd and the kids!

a fun little extra we did when one of my kids was a “girl wizard” was had her carry a little salt shaker with wizard spell dust (glitter) that she shook around as she made her way up and down the streets casting spells on people.
Can also double as princess dust!

    thinking of you all….

Having dated both a witch and a sorceress, I’m here to tell you there’s a BIG difference.

Fortunately, I ended up marrying a princess.

  39. Comment by Jill | 10.31.2008 | 11:10 am

    Great, creative costumes. Happy Halloween!

  40. Comment by mark | 10.31.2008 | 11:12 am

Fatty, your girls keep getting prettier. They must have learned that from their mother.

  41. Comment by Kt | 10.31.2008 | 11:12 am

Cute kids, I think you bought them from the gypsies.

Or, Susan cloned herself… I don’t see anything of you in those girls. :)

    Kidding! :)

Don’t forget to do QC on the candy haul later on. You want to make sure that your kids get only the BEST stuff, and you’ll make the sacrifice and take the sub-standard stuff for yourself. :)

    Hugs to you and Susan!

  42. Comment by monkeywebb | 10.31.2008 | 11:14 am

I don’t know when it happened, but sometime in the last year I must have turned into an old man. I forgot today was halloween until this morning when my wife asked if I was going to duplicate last year’s burrito costume to get another free burrito at Chipotle.
I’d highly suggest grabbing a roll of aluminum foil (or a white sheet if you prefer your burrito unwrapped) and escorting your two cuties trick-or-treating at the local Chipotle. It’s not quite tacqueria quality but one shouldn’t look a gift burrito in the mouth. They should put a gift burrito in their mouth.

  43. Comment by KanyonKris | 10.31.2008 | 11:17 am

dug – context, man, context! The girls are darling. But now that you mention it, ever since Elden pinched my butt at the Draper race…

And, yes, the proper name/title is important. Like being called sweeper instead of slowest, last, outcast, shunned, left for dead, suspected leper, Chupacabra bait/offering, flatulent, differently abled, etc.

  44. Comment by Julie | 10.31.2008 | 11:20 am

The sorceress needs a wand, it’ll help with the distinction.

    Both are VERY cute.

  47. Comment by VA Biker | 10.31.2008 | 11:37 am

Quite a contrast. As a twin, by that age, I never wanted to look like my brother! I hope they have fun!

    Peace.

  48. Comment by Katy | 10.31.2008 | 12:01 pm

Hm, I thought long and hard, and I think part of the difference between a witch and a sorceress is that a witch has a brim on her hat and a sorceress does not. Maybe she can do a brim-removing spell?

    In any case, what cuties!

  49. Comment by Marrock | 10.31.2008 | 12:16 pm

Well, obviously, if she were a witch she’d have green skin and a big honking wart on her nose… don’t you watch -any- TV at all?

Happy Halloween to you guys. You and your family have been in my thoughts & prayers a lot lately. My six year old is a witch this year. She is an “ugly scary witch” so we have to be sure and not call her cute.

  59. Comment by Jsun | 10.31.2008 | 3:07 pm

Aah, Halloween, the endurance event for kids. They train all year for it with smaller events to practice their skills – Christams goodies, Easter baskets, birthdays, et cetera. Then the big event – the well chosen costume, the approach and delivery of ‘trick or treat’, pacing yourself to last through the whole neighborhood, choosing the most rewarding houses and streets, braving the cold and dark outdoors and finally reviewing the take and deciding how it should be devoured.
And as I had to explain to my Hallow’s eve nooby wife, this event is not something that your seven year old neice and nephew want to drag your two daughter along. This is a serious day not to be spoiled by the slower paced.

We are not so big on halloween here but we had a battle of the bands concert for teenagers and the kids were encouraged to dress up for halloween. My 17 year old daughter went as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. Her explanation was this is what Dot was like before she went bad.

I’m with you Dug KK definitely called him darling. The context excuse is clearly an afterthought.

    Hi Elden —
I like the princess and the sorceress. They have the look… not only in their costumes, but in their expressions. These girls can work it! Power to the sistahs! I, too, am a princess and a soceress. I have to keep it on the down low, so as not to overwhelm people with my mightiness… but I do keep a tiara and a wand in the drawer with my other accesories, should the occasion warrant.
I’m new to this whole blogging thing, and I had no intention of writing a post about you or your situation when I sat down to write two days ago. But what came out was about you and your situation, and what it made me think about and feel. Also, somewhere in the midst of it I call you a stud, so you may want to read it just for that. But just so you know, I think your wife is a stud too. And I wish you both peace and strength.

Hope you got some of the candy too. mmmm….Halloween candy… We took our 6 month old daughter out trick or treating last night (ok – it was really an excuse to show off how cute she looked in her red hot chili pepper costume). I think we ate all the candy before we even got home. Pathetic.

    Fatty,

I’m glad that you have some beautiful reasons to smile. Speaking of which, I found out I have a new reason to smile when I dropped by the twin six page the other day. It looks like they ran off some more 2008 Jerseys. I missed them when they literally sold out in minutes earlier this year. So I snapped one up immediately. Twin Six is awesome with delivery, so I’m already looking sexy in another team fatty jersey And my girlfriend digs it. I’m praying for you guys. Thanks for everything.

Oh, and anyone that missed out on the 2008 jerseys, go over to twin six and get them while the getting’s good. Support the fatty family.

Many prayers to all of you. There is nothing fair about “It”. That is the word that has been given to describe Cancer from a group of middle school students here in my hometown that are a part of a support group for kids dealing with “it” in their lives and homes. The perspective from kids is amazing….and enlightening. From their perspective, they need normal too. They hate the word Cancer….and all it brings. We all do dont we?! We feel powerless against it.

It looks/sounds as though you are trying to make this time of transition as easy and as normal for your children as possible. That is what amazing parents do. More than kudos to you and Susan. You are blessed. I will continue to pray for your hearts to know the truth and peace of Jesus. May your family be lifted up and guided thru this time with clarity, discernment, peace, strength and understanding. Be blessed and encouraged. Thanks for all you are doing for Susan and your children. WIN Nelsons!!
