Fat Cyclist Jerseys — And Some Other Cool Surprise Stuff — Now Available

11.3.2008 | 1:28 pm

Right now, I expect pretty much everyone who comes to this blog is first and foremost interested in how Susan is doing. Well, I’m happy to be able to say there’s good news. Susan’s been back to herself since late Thursday — more than three days ago, now.

She’s also very weak and tired now, though. She’s unable to use the walker at all anymore, and sleeps about 16 hours per day.

She worries a lot about needing so much help from me right now. I have a simple and effective response: “If the tables were turned, would you resent having to help me this way?”

And of course she wouldn’t.

The real surprise, for me, is how much I enjoy taking care of Susan. I’m still very clumsy and slow at a lot of stuff, but I’m improving. It gives me lots of time to be with Susan, and it feels good to be needed.

I even feel like maybe I’m becoming a less selfish person because of this. And my kids have seemed to intuit what mom needs. Brice reads to her, Nigel’s typing Susan’s handwritten chapters for her novel, and the twins climb up on Susan’s bed and talk with her.

I’ve got a remarkable family.

A Whole Bunch of Cool Fat Cyclist Stuff Now Available

Long before Susan’s cancer got to this point, the guys at Twin Six and I started talking about making some other cool cycling gear to go with their awesome 2009 Fat Cyclist jersey design.

And now a lot of it’s arrived. I think you’re going to like it. Let’s take a look.

The 2009 Fat Cyclist Jersey

200811030943.jpg

Originally, this jersey was only available by pre-order, but we went ahead and got a few extras. This jersey is available in both mens‘ and womens‘ sizing.

These are in stock now, so you can easily get them by Christmas as long as you order in time. However, there aren’t a lot of these in any given size, so I’d recommend against waiting.

By the way, the Twin Six guys are doing something very cool with this jersey: for the XL sizes on up, they’re turning all the profit over to me. To help defray ambulance costs, you know?I misunderstood; the Twin Six guys are being even more generous than I thought. See this post for details.

The Twin Six guys are cool.

Pre-Order: The WOOL Long-Sleeve 2009 Fat Cyclist Jersey — Limited Edition

200811031004.jpg

If you’re planning to do some serious late-Autumn to early-Spring riding, you might want to take a look at this: The Fat Cyclist Wool Jersey. It’s 100% Merino wool with three pockets in the back, and we’re only making 100 of them. And one of them’s mine.

Pre-order is this week only and ends November 10 at 10:00am CST.

Bib Shorts and Womens’ Shorts

200811031017.jpg

Want some bib shorts (for the guys) or shorts (for the women) that go perfectly with your Fat Cyclist jersey?

I do.

These are 8 panel shorts with a super soft, completely seamless and fully perforated chamois. I am told that bib shorts make me look ten pounds lighter, and so always wear bib shorts, even when I am not riding a bike.

Arm Warmers

200811031031.jpg

Is there a piece of cycling clothing more practical and portable than arm warmers?

The answer is: “No, there is not.”

And now your nice, practical arm warmers will look sassy, too.

When people see you in full Fat Cyclist kit like this, they will think you are a pro cyclist, no matter how slow you ride.

    Fatty-

I just ordered the jersey and bibs, not only because I have been an avid reader of your blog for a long time, but also because I’m getting ever fatter.

Please use all your pull at T6 to get them to start using full-zip jerseys.

Glad to hear that Susan is doing better.

    >>>>>Is there a piece of cycling clothing more practical and portable than arm warmers?

I’ve always found massive leather codpieces to be both highly practical and portable, but if you say arm warmers are better for the job, Elden, I’ll give them a shot.

Thanks for the update – it’s good to hear some good news somewhere. My husband’s jersey arrived – I know he’ll love it!

Tell Susan she has a whole fan club that wishes we could do more than pray! :-)

I’m so happy for Susan, you and the kids, Fatty.

  7. Comment by Chrissy | 11.3.2008 | 1:58 pm

I hope you and Susan know how many people, how many STRANGERS, are behind you. ; )

I just ordered a jersey for my husband, happily he is a 3x so those $70 bucks go straight to you. Spend it on something fun!

  8. Comment by Annie | 11.3.2008 | 2:04 pm

Yep, you’re right. The first thing I want to know is how Susan’s doing. I’m glad she’s clear and that the kids and you are able to interact with her. Good news.

  9. Comment by Gillian | 11.3.2008 | 2:04 pm

I have no bucks. I am buck-less. But, if I had a spare hundred, you can bet I would throw it down on a full Fatty set. In pink, of course.

You know cafe press can publish that novel, eh? Make a nice Christmas present for Susan and the family, to see those words in print . . .

  10. Comment by bikemike | 11.3.2008 | 2:06 pm

Nice, all the way around. A good monday.

Hey Fatty glad to hear things are a bit better with Susan. I just finished ordering my Wooly which I believe will be one of the first in Nova Scotia. I hope it gets here before the end of Cross season (Dec. 7)

That’s all good news to ears out here.

Question: Does the XL stand for “Extra Luxury”? Because I’m definitely looking for something in a size Luxury, perhaps with some Extra. Luxury.

  16. Comment by Andrea | 11.3.2008 | 2:24 pm

Glad to hear Susan is doing better. I am also stoked to hear that I will be able to get a FC jersey after all. I know just the person who will want to buy me one for Christmas!

  17. Comment by Clydesteve | 11.3.2008 | 2:34 pm

Good news about Susan is great. So is news of a T6 FC wool L/S jersey. Whoo-hoo!

Q: Is the back really devoid of the large rearing Clydesdale? :-( Oh, well.

    heh. I don’t think so. :)
But your sales pitch was good nonetheless.

  22. Comment by Emily | 11.3.2008 | 2:49 pm

How can you be so pro-arm-warmers, yet believe that “knee warmers are stupid”? Aren’t arm warmers just knee warmers for your elbows? I mean, the elbow is clearly the knee of the arm.

Good to hear the latest news on Susan too. All the best to her.

  23. Comment by Donald | 11.3.2008 | 2:49 pm

Fatty- So GREAT to hear. Yes, you do have an incredible family. WIN SUSAN!

And the new Fat Cyclist Twin Six swag is sweet!

  24. Comment by Emy | 11.3.2008 | 2:58 pm

Wonderful to hear that Susan is having some good days. Praise God! I will continue to keep you, Susan, and your entire family in my thoughts and prayers.

You know, I’m a runner not a cyclist, but I’ve been thinking about arm warmers… I wonder if coolness factor of Fatcyclist arm warmers would outweigh the dorkiness. ;)

  25. Comment by Jennifer in Tampa | 11.3.2008 | 2:59 pm

Thank goodness for good news. I’ve been checking back frantically, often. So glad to see a new post with good news.

FYI I wore my FC jersey yesterday and talked to several people about you and your site and your family and Susan and cancer and everything.

I normally don’t wear the color pink that’s on this jersey, but looking at myself in the mirror yesterday I decided I looked quite sporting.

Praying (even tho I’m not a believer) for continued good news.

  26. Comment by Cliff | 11.3.2008 | 3:13 pm

EffCee – I’m a cycling enthusiast (that’s a step above a casual rider and a step below a hardcore racer) here in Arkansas and just found your blog last week and have been reading frantically to get “caught up”. To say the least, I still have a LOT more reading to do! My heart, thoughts, and prayers are going out for you and your family. I’m glad to hear you have gotten to spend some more precious time with your wife and I hope for many more moments like that! Keep fighting!

Thanks for the great stories – they are definitely fun to read and motivational as well!

  27. Comment by Heatherann | 11.3.2008 | 3:22 pm

WIN SUSAN! I am so excited to hear the good news.
And Twin Six just went up 10 times in my book! Way to go guys. It’s good to see that there are still companies run by heart.

brings a smile to my face to hear susan is doing better, little things can make a big difference

i was a total loser when the pre order happened and i missed it, so i just snagged myself a v4 jersy to go along with 2 and 3.

eyeing the wool jersey with great envy, man thats a good looking kit.

  33. Comment by Dave | 11.3.2008 | 5:01 pm

Great news about Susan. And now I’m even more glad I bought a jersey from Twin Six!

  34. Comment by TCR Dave (formerly dave) | 11.3.2008 | 5:57 pm

The funny thing is I just ordered an ‘08 fc jersey last week, to finish off my collection (I missed out during the summer sale). I now have all 3 models. Now I have to place another order to get some arm warmers, but I usually end up getting other stuff while I’m at it. There must be a conspiracy to make me want to spend all my cycling money at twin six. They definately have some cool stuff.

    Glad for Susan’s clarity. WIN!

  35. Comment by Hamish | 11.3.2008 | 6:49 pm

    Nice kit!
So I wonder if all of the pre-orders have been sent yet, because I haven’t received mine here in Aus yet.. not worried though.

Glad to hear Susan has been better!!

  36. Comment by Linda | 11.3.2008 | 6:52 pm

great news fatty…thanks for giving us the updates on Susan! I have to say, my fat cyclist jersey is the most well made jersey I own, and I am always so very proud to be wearing it.
    WIN!

  37. Comment by Philly Jen | 11.3.2008 | 7:29 pm

The coolness factor of Fat Cyclist gear outweighs the dorkiness of anything and everything, including the wearer.

And Susan — your four wonderful kids are proof that you have already won.

  38. Comment by Nikki | 11.3.2008 | 8:26 pm

DH came home and told me I’m getting a wooly for my birthday on Saturday (well, it probably won’t be here, but it’s the thougth that counts!). I jumped up and down and squealed like a girl… actually, I am a girl, but not the squealy type!!!! Praying for Fatty and family, especially for Susan who insprires me more than I can say!

  39. Comment by Rob D | 11.3.2008 | 9:13 pm

I didn’t preorder and I’ve been waiting for a chance to pick up one of your jerseys… finally bought mine right now! High five to Twin Six for everything they’re doing for you!

  40. Comment by Barb | 11.3.2008 | 9:27 pm

I’m happy Susan is back with you. The time with the kids is precious. I never doubted you would be an awesome caregiver; your nature has always come through your writings. Hang in there.

  41. Comment by Miles Archer | 11.3.2008 | 10:50 pm

Ordered wooly plus bib. The wooly is going to be great for winter riding in CA and likely be excellent for spring skiing too. Hopefully it still fits by the time I’m spring skiing.

2 XL jerseys have been purchased. It’s my chest, yeah, that’s why I need the XL jerseys.

Props to you and your kids for doing what needs to be done. I went through this with my dad earlier this year and it is VERY draining. Remember to try to take some time for yourself and to not let yourself get overwhelmed.
