Noodle’s 100 Miles of Nowhere

05.24.2009 | 10:53 pm

Noodle just sent in a video of her 100 Miles of Nowhere, which definitively answers the question, “What would happen if someone who knows what she’s doing with video documented her 100 Miles of Nowhere?”

I demand you watch this, right now:

That was so awesome. Noodle, thanks for taking the time to make that. Obviously, that took some work.

I’ll post more race reports tomorrow.

That was an amazing video. Noodle, are you available to teach a video workshop? If so, I’m in. Congrats on your big win!

  2. Comment by Uni-Tom | 05.24.2009 | 11:51 pm

That was AWESOME! Noodle, you’re hilarious. “The sheer vehemence of the suckage…” is the Best Line Ever! (although swearing on Bob Dylan’s beltbuckle comes close…)

  3. Comment by Dobovedo | 05.25.2009 | 1:11 am

That was absolutely wonderful. Start to finish.

    I particularly liked the post-ride T-shirt:
    “Enjoy this beautiful day”

    Indeed.

  4. Comment by LuckyLab | 05.25.2009 | 1:20 am

Awesome video! I laughed when I saw the bib. I’m bib 177 and I have a slightly annoying tendency to look for silly connections between people. :-)

  5. Comment by Pip | 05.25.2009 | 1:36 am

That is quite possibly the most awesome video ever. Loved the quote about the suckage, loved the t-shirt. Loved the beer at the end! It almost makes me want to crank out the wind trainer this weekend – almost!

Wow! That’s absolutely priceless, Noodle! Edible props, disillusionment, the best lines and the perfect recovery meal…brilliant. Well won!

LuckyLab, I’m glad I read your write-up, if only for the insanely short loop and “he’ll come round again…because that’s what your crazy Daddy does”.

    WIN SUSAN!!

Big hugs & congrats to those who competed in the 100 M.O.N.
I’d like to say that I won the “just turned 40,Kiwi in Riyadh” division, BUT it ain’t over yet… 50 miles/80k on saturday,25 yesterday and I guess the last 25 today… so even with my 48hr time bonus (race pack not here)it might come down to a sprint for the finish…
I guess considering my total km since january is less than 300 & no ride of more than 40k, it’s not too bad. Must try harder next time. Oh wait, I am NOT doing that again.

  8. Comment by Doug | 05.25.2009 | 2:39 am

100 on rollers is mondo harder than just doing 100. Congrats.

  9. Comment by Redbird74 | 05.25.2009 | 2:40 am

That was really amazing Noodle! Loved every second of it and can definitely share some of the feelings with you. I didn’t do it on rollers, so I can imagine that it was even worse for you than for I.

  10. Comment by little1 | 05.25.2009 | 3:12 am

Oh wow! shot for the vid noodle… kinda makes me want to do this 100 miles of nowhere!

  11. Comment by Christa | 05.25.2009 | 4:58 am

Why, *why* does that make me wish I did this?

(Of course, I don’t have a bike, which would complicate things, hmm…)

  12. Comment by Jamieson | 05.25.2009 | 5:04 am

    Bib 179 here.

Great effort from the Brooklyn contingent!

I agree with the “not again, until next year.”

  13. Comment by Andrea | 05.25.2009 | 5:11 am

I swear on Bob Dylan’s belt buckle, that was an awesome video!

  14. Comment by stewOZ & miss | 05.25.2009 | 5:32 am

My race pack has yet to reach Australia and I can’t wait. Loved hearing the Aussie accent. Ride safe.

    WIN SUSAN!!!

Well done! Fantastic video. Now Noodle…you need to show Fatty how to do time lapse video. Then he will look even faster on the climbs and descents!

I wish my kids could clean their rooms as fast as Noodle set up her race “course” in the video.

    WIN

Not having taken part in the Century of Nowhere, I am loving the videos. Can’t wait for more!

  17. Comment by b | 05.25.2009 | 6:16 am

    Top work Noodle!
Man, fatty’s gonna have his work cut out to get anywhere near that with his video. You are doing a video aren’t you fatty? ;¬)

  18. Comment by Rick | 05.25.2009 | 6:27 am

    Beautifully done video, thanks!

  19. Comment by Dave699 | 05.25.2009 | 6:38 am

Great video, Noodle, and – I can’t believe I’m the FIRST to say this – great soundtrack! I love the Killers cover.

  20. Comment by Uphillbattle | 05.25.2009 | 7:23 am

Noodles! That was AWESOME! Thank you for sharing!

  21. Comment by WheelDancer | 05.25.2009 | 7:39 am

Wow! Noodle not only wins her division but is the runaway leader in the video competition. The Bob Dylan’s belt buckle comment was most excellent!

  22. Comment by Todd in Chicago | 05.25.2009 | 7:41 am

    Simply amazing. Nice work.

Makes my boring ride up and down the lakefront path in Chicago for a good part of Saturday seem fun compared to this suffering.

  23. Comment by Noodle | 05.25.2009 | 7:46 am

Thanks everyone for the kind words on the vid. It kinda makes the event look like fun, but as you peeps who’ve done the 100 know…well, I refer you to my suckage line and leave it at that. I love my rollers, but right now, that relationship is strained. Oh, and I do have a Bob Dylan belt buckle (but it’s not Mr Zimmerman’s so it would be pointless to swear on that)

    Win Susan!

And a big thanks to Fatty for having crazy ideas. I can’t believe I got this excited about spending the day in my apartment.

  24. Comment by Bruce Bebow | 05.25.2009 | 8:28 am

Hey, Noodle, bib 180 here (is that close enough??).

I love, love, love the video. Must have been a LOT of work; I spent a few hours just putting together my post-ride web page. I hope you got some sleep before you made the video. Well done.

  25. Comment by Bryan | 05.25.2009 | 8:34 am

Congrats. Loved the vid, music and quotes. What really struck me though was the part where you see the time-lapse of the sunlight across the floor and then disappearing. Awesome.

  26. Comment by Shiny Flu | 05.25.2009 | 8:57 am

Totally Awesome Noodle! Not to mention everyone else smar…errrrr…ummm…’brave’ enough to do 100 miles of nowhere.

PS: Noodle are you an ex-pat aussie? Slightly altered accents confuse me.

  27. Comment by Noodle | 05.25.2009 | 9:13 am

I don’t have an accent, everyone else does. :P
    And yes, I’m an Aussie.

  28. Comment by Rob M. | 05.25.2009 | 9:14 am

    Great job, Noodle.

Your video cleverly captures the fun of preparing, the pain of doing, and the satisfaction of completion of the 100m2nw.

I agree with Bryan about the lapse of the sun across the floor.

I am so impressed with all the talented followers of Fatty’s blog. I’m thinking we have the makings of another contest hidden here.

  29. Comment by kvigor | 05.25.2009 | 11:16 am

On rollers? You’re completely mad, woman. You *so* win.

  30. Comment by jt | 05.25.2009 | 12:18 pm

“sheer vehemence of suckage” enters cycling lexicon, right next to “suitcase of courage”. Awesome.

  31. Comment by Kala | 05.25.2009 | 1:09 pm

Haha, great video, Noddle! Loved your thank you speech at the end! My two favorite quotes “sheer vehemence of suckage” and swearing on “Bob Dylan’s belt buckle”

    Excellent.

    WIN SUSAN! :)

Without delay, I gathered the fam around the computer to honor my leader’s command. Without question, we were all thankful for his insight and Noodle’s genius.

    Bull, Bib number 123.

  33. Comment by John W | 05.25.2009 | 3:19 pm

That is seriously one of the best cycling films I have seen. Congrats Noodle for finishing the ride and thanks for such a brilliant documentary.

  34. Comment by Joe Rosario | 05.25.2009 | 5:50 pm

    You rock, Noodle!

  35. Comment by Philly Jen | 05.25.2009 | 7:45 pm

And “very special protein shake” also barrels into the cycling lexicon — in a stirring photo finish, right behind “sheer vehemence of suckage.”

I raise my glass to you, Noodle!

  36. Comment by MattC | 05.25.2009 | 8:25 pm

I am SO in awe of all you 100M.O.N. loonies (I mean incredibly brave and courageous people!) Noodle, you have set the bar pretty darn high in the outrageousness of your awesomeness. Your video was spectacular! You should be making movies.

I actually did 100 miles to somewhere this weekend….so very sorry to say, I don’t have rollers, and even though I DO own a cateye cyclosimulator fork mount trainer, I’m still not on speaking terms with it…7 years dragging it around the world with me on USNS ships (and my trusty hardtail trek mtb)…I’ll just say that not even Fatty himself could get me on it…for now anyway…someday…maybe.
I look forward to hearing about more. LOVE IT!

  37. Comment by ricky | 05.25.2009 | 11:12 pm

    brilliant. nice work, noodle.

  38. Comment by Cyclin' Missy | 05.26.2009 | 6:32 am

That was amazing! And it’s inspiring me pretty hard core to join in the intense suckage of the 100 Miles of Nowhere next year! Uh oh!

  39. Comment by Kt | 05.26.2009 | 12:15 pm

That was an awesome video! I too loved the “sheer vehemence of suckage” quote. I will try to work it into a sentence today at work. :)

    Good job, Noodle, you rock.

Fabulous video. Definitely worth a repeat showing!

Noodle…that was sublime. You’ve inspired me for next year.

    Win Susan!

  43. Comment by mccoy54wru | 05.27.2009 | 10:51 pm

    Hey Noodle, Neat Vid.

Next year put your bike into the big ring and you might get a sub-8 time.

  44. Comment by Nina in Ohio | 05.28.2009 | 8:35 am

NOODLE – THAT WAS FANTASTIC – A GREAT EXAMPLE OF BRITISH WIT! AND ALTHOUGH I LOVE A COLD BREW AFTER 100 MILES OF ANYTHING – CAN’T SAY THAT I COULD CHOKE DOWN A GUINNESS! GREAT FUN TO WATCH!
