Fantastic ! Great that Runner qualified. Fatty almost made it without training. So Fatty where is your next attempt to qualify? You almost nailed it this time, or maybe pinned it. Next time let Runner pin the number on. What ? She did this time ? Fatty you are such a oaf, the price to pay, forgetting something so important to her.
Suggestion DZ Nuts on the milk duds next time ?

    :-)

  23. Comment by Charlie | 05.21.2011 | 4:31 pm

Congrats, Runner, on making the Boston Marathon. I don’t know if I’d let Fatty have the responsibility of registering for the BIG ONE, though. VIP may be substantially more expensive for that one.

  24. Comment by Charlie | 05.21.2011 | 4:33 pm

…and Fatty, excellent result for you, also.

  25. Comment by Christine | 05.21.2011 | 4:43 pm

You looked good at the finish. I’ll e-mail a link to a flicker set when I get them uploaded. Somehow I didn’t see The Runner, though I was watching for her bib.

My wife was running it as well, I’m not just a creeper.

  27. Comment by leroy | 05.21.2011 | 5:28 pm

Ooops, too late to wish good luck, but not too late to say congratulations!

P.S. — Fatty, Dr. Lammler called. He saw that head cam set up in your earlier post and wanted to take back that comment about the most you have suffered on a bike equals skipping a nice juicy dinner.

  28. Comment by AJ | 05.21.2011 | 5:58 pm

Well done to both of you!

  35. Comment by a chris | 05.22.2011 | 1:53 am

Excellent. Ouch on the shirt. I’m not too sure I understood that picture unambiguously. All I thought, aside from “aaarrgh” was “DZ Nuts?”

  36. Comment by SueM | 05.22.2011 | 3:21 am

congratulations! you are now in the frustrating world of attempting to REGISTER for the Boston Marathon, Fatty. I hope you blog about that. You will have to wait until registration opens and then she can only register on a certain day based on how much she bettered her qualifying time. It’s a very frustrating place to be in for a runner who’s now qualified. I know this from experience…

  37. Comment by Julia | 05.22.2011 | 6:10 am

Freakin’ awesome! Way to go, Runner and Fatty!

  38. Comment by Squirrelhead | 05.22.2011 | 7:40 am

Congratulations to The Runner on her Boston qualifying run! Fatty you had an excellent run as well. Use a lot of Neosporin and wearing a shirt won’t hurt for too long.

Congrats! However, I am concerned that you may have burned way too many calories yesterday!! put your feet up, and take a day off today with plenty of ice cream and high calorie snackage….I dont want you feeling faint, at least until the middle of June.

    Nice work, Fatty. Pulling a sub-4 marathon out of your — . . . er . . . HAT — is pretty impressive.

  55. Comment by cyclingjimbo | 05.23.2011 | 5:41 am

    Congratulations to both of you.

Fatty, as you grow older, you will probably own up that this is about the only time in your life you will call gravity your friend. Mostly, gravity sucks … or pulls.

You burned a lot of calories yesterday. Unless you went on an eating binge last night, you should register a nice weight drop.

  56. Comment by Roger Whitney | 05.23.2011 | 7:00 am

    AWESOME RUNNER!!!!!!!!

    Great Time Fatty!!!!!!

  58. Comment by Obstinate Roadie | 05.23.2011 | 8:08 am

Congratulations! You deserve a very large and high calorie gourmet meal after your accomplishment! But why stop there? This calls for a week long celebration! You’ll have plenty of time to lose weight afterwards.

    Congratulations, Lisa! Awesome achievement!

Fatty, when I ran my first marathon (in 3:49, thank you very much) I trained my a$$ off for it – in those days (1981) you trained 60-70 miles a week, none of this 3-5 miles 3 days a week and a long run on the weekend like these kids today do. I have never been so proud of myself. I was 27. The next year I was overwhelmed at work and wasn’t able to train for a marathon, but I went out and ran the first half with a friend. He kept telling me I was doing great and I should keep going and I could finish, but I did not want to do that, because I REALLY DIDN’T WANT TO KNOW if it turned out that I could run a marathon without seriously training for it.

So now you, at 20ish years older than I was then, have ruined my life.

Or not – we already know you are superhuman, so I will herewith discount your experience.

Oh, and congratulations on breaking 4.

  63. Comment by Papa Bear | 05.23.2011 | 10:10 am

Congratz Runner! You are an amazing woman! I’m sure Fatty would agree. Gratz to you as well, Fatty!

  64. Comment by briebecca | 05.23.2011 | 10:10 am

Damn, I’m impressed! Congratulations to the Runner for qualifying for Boston! And to Fatty for an excellent race as well. What do you mean by, “Gravity is your friend?”. I tend to take things too literally and the obvious eludes me..

  65. Comment by Grizzly Adam | 05.23.2011 | 11:26 am

    Run Runner Run!

  66. Comment by Dan O | 05.23.2011 | 12:23 pm

Congrats to the Runner for the BQ! My wife is qualified as well. Will there be a Team Fatty meet up that weekend? Also, congrats on your sub 4! I am still stuck at 4:12 as a PR myself. One day I’ll have that magic 3 at the start of my finish time too!
