Final Three Days: Madone Project One / ENVE / SRAM / The Feed Contest

07.29.2013 | 8:11 am

I’m out of town for work all this week, and am not going to have a lot of time to post, but I want to remind you that we’re down to the final three days of the contest to Change a Life, Get Your Money Doubled, and Win a Dream Bike. The last day to donate is this Wednesday

And remember, the grand prize bike is off the charts. Check out the details here, but let me give you a quick recap.

The winner gets a Trek Madone 7 Series Frameset, the absolute top-of-the-line road racing frame, styled with Trek’s Project One customizing program:

Then you get wheels, bars and stem from ENVE Composites, a designer and manufacturer (right here in the USA, thank you very much) of parts so beautiful you can’t help but want to frame them:

NewImage

And by “would choose” I mean “did choose.” These are the wheels I ride with on my own personal road bike. And they are amazing. They seriously, genuinely, and for reals make you a faster rider.

Finally, SRAM completes your bike with a full complement of SRAM RED – Black Edition components: Shifters, derailleurs, crankset, cassette, everything.

The Daily Drawing

As if that weren’t enough, we’re also doing a daily drawing from the list of people who have donated so far. Today’s giveaway from TheFeed.com is awesome: a THREE-month subscription at the $19.99 level, which means that every month for three months, you’re going to get a box of food good for 10-12 rides. Like this:

In addition to this, the winner is going to get a 30 serving container of Fluid Hydration Mix.

So how do you enter and be eligible to win this prize from TheFeed.com, the ones after that (there will be six more!) and the bike? Just donate here, in increments of $10.00. It’s that easy.

I do not want to frame those ENVE components. Not unless by “frame them” you mean put them in that fabulous Trek frame.

    Black. With blue flames please.

Pretty sure I know what we’ll all be doing August 2 at 11 A.M. (I read the deets around the rules), drumming our fingers and chanting “pick me, pick me!”

I just hope whoever wins, shares exactly what s/he ends up choosing as their bike! And posts lots of pictures! Then we can at least live vicariously through them (or secretly mock their choices in a vain attempt to create a sense of superiority to offset the feelings of despair and hopelessness after failing to win this amazing bike for ourselves). :-)

Totally off topic, but I have to share. I think I had the closest thing I’ll probably ever have to a true “Fat Cyclist” moment yesterday. Kids and I did a 50 miler (though it was flat), and the last 20 miles we all felt better/stronger/faster than the first 30. The last 20 we were flying along (you know, for us anyway; I won’t be remotely offended if you laugh hysterically at that concept after viewing my Strava). I was just feeling stronger and stronger, wanting to go faster as we headed for the finish. We have not done more than 7-8 rides since Davis, so I had been worried about trying to do 50 miles. At the end of the ride, I thought to myself: “Holy *bleep*! I have an actual fitness base now!” That sensation of just feeling better the longer I rode – which has never happened before – well after reading about Fatty feeling like that a lot (especially this year), I finally get it! It’s pretty damn awesome too.

As a true “fatty” I have to ask…

If I’m north of 250 lbs. should I even participate? Carbon frame and composite components are typically not on my shopping list due to durability.

  5. Comment by Tom in Albany | 07.29.2013 | 12:57 pm

@Leedo – If nothing else, you can always sell it. Or, you can tell Fatty that if you’re picked, he should put the name back in.

  6. Comment by Kristina | 07.29.2013 | 2:56 pm

I’ve wondered the same thing, Leedo! This amazingly awesome bike… I very much feel like it would be wasted on me. On the (off-off-off-chance) I actually won it, I was thinking I might ask if I could assign the prize to my brother.

  7. Comment by Christina | 07.29.2013 | 4:19 pm

If I win that motherlovin’ bike, I’m riding it! And I may not do it justice today, but I will do it justice over the course of owning it.

My mother tried saying, “You could give it to me.” I responded with, “No.”

  8. Comment by Wife#1 | 07.29.2013 | 4:23 pm

@Christina – right on sista! Love it! I hope whoever wins it feels just that same way!

@Wife#1 has me thinking about Friday morning now. Where will I be? Working in the OR, no doubt. But I’ll be thinking about the drawing and this song will be going through my head:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahvSgFHzJIc

Any chance that I’ve used up all my luck winning the 2013 FC kit (bib shorts and all) awarded for TwinSix TOTM “investors”?

No matter! As long as we all get to have the vicarious thrill of hearing about the lucky winner and how her life has changed entirely because of the bike, how she’s won the Nobel Prize for cycling and been been featured on the cover of Peloton Magazine and how her piano skills have leapt forward, I’ll be happy.

Then there’s the ever-lasting joy of thinking about the recipients of the WBR bikes. Honestly, I’m so grateful to be part of WBR’s campaign to change lives through bicycles, it’s truly a grand prize already. We’ve ALL won!

Thank you, FC for telling us about WBR!

@Nancy…. as another former prize winner, I feel pretty sure you have more available luck leftover than I do!

I just hope whoever the gods favor on this go around SHARES about it. We never did hear from the person who won the road bike last time, and that thing was pretty damn sweet too!

And yes, in the end, it is of course ALL ABOUT the bikes in Africa and the good feelings that come with the investments we are making in a better life for another person.

Pssstt… I got Rune monkey lights. Were they hard to install? David already has a honey-do list as long as my… well I won’t air that laundry here. Are they easy to install? I was going to have a crack at it myself but I’m even less handy with tools than Fatty. Hey – his words, not mine!

@Wife#1 Installation of Monkey Lights was easy because I had a friend do it. He said it was “a snap” and only took about 20 minutes. At the time I was slinging hash for the Dark 100 MoN riders, so I didn’t supervise and I heard no bad words from across the campsite. Mostly you use zip ties, as I recall. Can you operate a scissors?

It seems the hardest part is getting it to run the designs you want, which will no challenge for a teen! There are installation videos on the Tube of You, so I’m betting you’ll be fine. Something tells me you are more tech savvy than the average grrrl. I was actually embarrassed that I didn’t do it myself when I saw what it involved. Rune is gonna LOVE the lights! I only wish I had more night riding opportunities to use mine.

    @Wife#1 and @Nancy in Mn

Long time reader first time poster…….today.

Since W#1 now knows that I have volunteered to move boxes of her sister’s into our basement, i better install some Monkey Lights Tuesday as well, and then finish that window replacement. Thank goodness Fatty’s at a Conference this week so we just have ourselves to talk to.

@FC Since you’re having some ‘Fun in Sun’ I hope you’ll post some pics of your outing…that is when you’re out of those conference rooms.

I’m sure the good doctor king simply wants to contribute some products and services to the prize pool.

  19. Comment by Wife#1 | 07.30.2013 | 10:02 am

@Mattc…. I noticed you left off the African herbs. Did you consult your wife about that omission? ;-)

BTW – I have started getting some spambots on my own blog, but none so good as that one. I feel a little left out!

  20. Comment by MattC | 07.30.2013 | 10:29 am

@Wife#1…well, I’ve never had any problems ” USING TRUE MIXTURES OF AFRICAN HERBS”, thus have no need for the good Dr. “TO TREAT, HEAL & PAY ATTENTION TO” me. Maybe something was lost in the translastion? Besides, I typically use only FALSE African Herbs (much cheaper on the black market). And don’t even get me started on my fasle Chinese herbs (in lieu of highly expensive and quite rare rhino horn I just eat elmers glue…hooves, horn…same ol’, same ol’).

  21. Comment by Wife#1 | 07.30.2013 | 10:35 am

@MattC… why didn’t you tell me this months ago! I can get you (horse) hoof aplenty. You’re on your own for horn (let’s just leave that alone, shall we), but hooves…. we can hook you up! I can even deliver them as shavings that you can mix right into your smoothies.

Mmmm…. and as an added bonus, the dogs love them too!

  22. Comment by MattC | 07.30.2013 | 12:22 pm

@Wife#1…isn’t that a type of breakfast cereal (Hoofs Aplenty)? Sounds tasty!!

I’ve given the babies (ie: dogs) hooves before, they go CRAZY for them, and leave quite a mess of icky glue-like residue wherever they devoured them…thus they don’t get ‘hoof’ any more. Plus Sydney will just swallow them (she’s already had 3 emergency stomach surgeries for eating non-eatable things).

  23. Comment by Wife#1 | 07.30.2013 | 1:57 pm

@MattC… fair enough. I feel your pain. Especially since the giant goldendoofus puppy, er goldendoodle, barfed out 2 socks and pooped out another one, all this morning!

And back ON topic for this actual post… I hope everyone noticed that in the event you are able/were able to spring for an entire buffalo bike @$134, you earn 3 bonus entries in the drawing. For every bike.

With just today and tomorrow left, I wanted to make sure everyone knew that. :-) Not to diminish the value of the $10 donation! We all know people win from the single “entry” donations too. It’s all good!

As you were. I’m off now to actually work for the rest of the day, before Fatty adds me to the “3 a day or stay away” gang.

  24. Comment by Doug (Way Upstate NY) | 07.30.2013 | 7:43 pm

@Davidh – you crack me up………Fatty’s hit count would probably drop by an order of magnitude if you stopped posting :D

Great story about your preparation for Leadville on your blog. It definitely gives us something else to read this week.

    Just some thoughts:
ARE FEELING SO CONFUSED….-DO YOU HAVE DOUBTS…..-ARE YOU ON THE RIGHT PATH….-ARE YOU FEELING…LOST…. -DO YOU FEEL CONFUSED AND DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT?

I’m sure there’s still time to get ‘them beans’. just call now!

You also didn’t share the inside shot of Camp Bohl:

I thought between sessions in the ‘altitude tent you might like some insight into Fatty’s week.
