Three Months of Weight Loss in Less Than Three Minutes

03.29.2013 | 12:49 pm

The main point of today’s post is that I’ve made a video with a time-lapse of my weight loss efforts. Frankly, it’s pretty freaky and disturbing and you may not want to watch it unless you can stand the thought of two-plus minutes of me morphing from a chunky middle-aged balding guy into a somewhat less-chunky middle-aged balding guy.

If you think you can deal with that, read on.

First though, for those of you who haven’t been following along as I’ve tried to lose 25 pounds during the first three months of this year, here’s the quick version.

  1. Adam Schwarz, A complete stranger — but reader of this blog — happened to be the same height and weight as me, and who also wanted to lose the same amount in the same period of time, had a contest with me. The details are here.
  2. I’ve kept track of my weight loss journey over at Beeminder, and in the sidebar of my blog.
  3. Both Adam and I succeeded in hitting our goals early, so we both win the rather nice reward of being much much lighter than before and ready to kick some butt during the upcoming race season. I’ve already set some PRs and netted a couple KOMs I’ve been after forever over at Strava.

But enough jibber jabber. Here’s the video for you to watch…if you dare.

    Looking good, ‘not so fatty’.

Nice choice in using Cake for the music.

Thank you. Which makes me think: I I forgot to credit the artist and song in the video! I’ll upload a new version ASAP. – FC

Awesome. Song choice was perfect, too.

Thanks. I used my brilliant technique of making the video, then sorting my iTunes library by song length and then picking one that fits the video length. This method has never failed me. – FC

A large difference, sir, as you managed to lose 15.96% of yourself over those 90 days.

I’m sure you’re pleased with the weight loss, are you pleased with the aesthetic results, too?

Conrats on the KOMs. I’m toying with the idea of putting myself into weight loss mode and dropping those last 15 pounds once and for all. (At least until next winter.)

  5. Comment by Sthenic | 03.29.2013 | 2:19 pm

We’re you sucking in your gut those last few shots?

I was sucking my gut in in ALL the shots. I’ve been sucking my gut in for so long I no longer know what it’s like to not be sucking my gut in. But no, I’m not sucking my gut in those last few shots any more than I normally am. – FC

That is quite fabulous, though now I find myself jonesing for a “Coupling” marathon.

Congratulations! I bet you are feeling sooo much better and I did see those new Strava accomplishments. Frosting on the cake! Er, perhaps PB2 on the celery should be the new analogy.

So I have to ask 2 questions. First, how in the hell did you drop that 3+ pounds overnight (cause I want to try it too!)? Second, what are your plans to keep the weight off now that you’re thinny?

    1. That 3+ loss today reflects a pretty majorly upset stomach yesterday. That loss won’t stick; I’ll bounce up tomorrow.
    2. Well, I’m going to try to get down to 148 pounds or so. Once there, I hope to maintain by doing what I’ve been doing, but with the addition of eating dinner with the family again. – FC

Wow, Fatty!!! I’m amazed and impressed you were able to meet (and beat) your goals.

The video is fantastic. Great idea to chronical weight loss – it shows the .6 pounds here and there really add up.

    Congratulations! =)

Are you going to put your newly slender figure at risk by ‘winning’ the Tour De Donut this year? Seems like the stakes are higher for you now! Perhaps we’ll see the debut of the Tour De Ricecakes?

  9. Comment by TK | 03.29.2013 | 2:37 pm

You just lost the weight equivalent 254 Krispy Kreme donuts.

  10. Comment by The Hammer | 03.29.2013 | 2:39 pm

Way to go honey! You look fantastic! If you lose anymore weight you may disappear altogether when you turn to the side!
And …Do you think we could go to Olive Garden for dinner and Coldstone for dessert tonight?

Tomorrow night. Remember, I’ve got one more weigh-in tomorrow, and it would be a shame if dinner out tonight meant buying Adam a pair of verrrrry expensive bibs tomorrow. – FC

  11. Comment by eclecticdeb | 03.29.2013 | 2:55 pm

*snort* The Hammer is awesome. Feel the love. :-)

  12. Comment by Davidh-Marin,ca | 03.29.2013 | 3:11 pm

I concur with eclectic deb. the Hammer deserves a night out and some ice cream! I assume she was the one who had to take all those pictures. That alone is worth a double scoop.

  13. Comment by Deb Mc | 03.29.2013 | 3:24 pm

    Congratulations, Fatty, and Adam, too!!!

  14. Comment by Wife#1 | 03.29.2013 | 3:44 pm

Nooooo….! Tonight is NOT the night for the dinner out. Sorry Hammer, I have to side with the wee one on this one. Salty restaurant food could wreak havoc on his (lack of) water retention.

And perhaps I may suggest, Olive Garden tomorrow night and maybe Coldstone on a different evening? The two-fer is a close friend of the evil scale. :-)

Well, other than the GI distress, it’s all just awesome Fatty, er I mean Thinny. You may want to look at reserving a new URL soon!

I know I am not the only one you are helping to stay motivated on our own weight loss journeys, so thanks for keeping it public, and real!

PS – the World Bicycle Relief Stumpy is awaiting just a few final touches in its build. I’ll post some pictures of David with the sheer awesomeness over the weekend. I hope those who the other prizes will share pictures too!

    Especially of the McDreamy/McDanielson Sandwich.

Couldn’t resist. It’s Friday. True it’s Good Friday, but Friday nonetheless!

  15. Comment by Lora | 03.29.2013 | 3:50 pm

Where’d your chest hair go on 1/14? I even went back and watched a second time to make sure there really was a difference and there definitely is. Congratulations on the fabulous loss…if only I had your discipline!

I trim my chest and arm hair on even weeks, head on odd weeks, legs every week, face twice a week. Hair is nothing but a hassle. The reason the change was so obvious the first time I trimmed it is because I had kinda let myself go in more ways than one. – FC

  16. Comment by Adam | 03.29.2013 | 4:00 pm

    Hammer-

I really appreciate your support. Fatty, take her up on it. She’s been so good to you for so long. I kid.

It’s been a great ride. Glad you made it!

  17. Comment by Lisa | 03.29.2013 | 4:32 pm

Wow! What a difference! You look great, and I applaude the effort (on both your and the Hammer’s part) to reach your goal. I’m amazed at the difference in the neck and chin area. You look like your much younger brother.

Nicely done Fatty (and you too Adam! )

  18. Comment by Bethany | 03.29.2013 | 7:12 pm

I’m just impressed that you were able to maintain that tan line through 3 months of winter.

  19. Comment by Nancy_in_MN | 03.29.2013 | 7:39 pm

Anyone else unable to see the video? The link does not appear when I read today’s post. I’ve clicked every other link (more than once, just to be sure) and feel quite informed about the whole contest and Fatty’s KOMs and PRs. I was really hoping to see the video of the amazing shrinking man. Sigh!

Yay! I dug up the video at Vimeo. Fun music on a very inspiring video. Worth many views, for the body hair, the overall effect, and the occasional happy grin. For fun, watch Fatty’s vanishing neck.

I agree with Lisa, you look much younger, FC! The competition will quake when they see you at starting lines this season.

  22. Comment by Thad | 03.29.2013 | 10:59 pm

Full disclosure, I will probably be racing against one of you on Rockwell. I recommend both of you attending Olive Garden and ColdStone EVERY night from now until June 10. Call it an extended carbo load.

  23. Comment by Dan O | 03.29.2013 | 11:04 pm

I have no idea why I sat through the video. Great job though…

  24. Comment by T.J. Olaussen | 03.30.2013 | 6:22 am

Very very disturbing to watch!! It’s like a fire or an accident. It’s terrible, but you can’t look away.

    Huge difference! Congratulations!

    Two words:

    Spray tan.

    Fabulous video, very motivating!!

@Jenni The other two words missing is Chia Pet.

  29. Comment by Heidi | 03.30.2013 | 11:36 am

Whoops, listed the Vimeo link but not a comment. You got younger and younger. Careful, you might get bumped into a different age bracket!

  30. Comment by Wife#1 | 03.30.2013 | 11:38 am

Okay totally off topic but the World Bicycle Relief Stumpjumper is now in the house! Thanks to WBR and Fatty for holding such an amazing fundraising event with prizes like this. David is going to have such a blast on this bike. Which BTW, is HUGE! He works today so I walked it home from the bike shop. I felt like a lilliputian just being next to it. No wonder you didn’t keep it, Fatty. :-)

Here are a few quick pics before I brought it inside. We’ll get better quality shots of it with David soon.

You look amazing! Congratulations on meeting your goal. You have been an inspiration to me this winter as I worked to take off some weight and NOT put on my winter 5.

    Congrats!

Here’s a cool, quick video on what 2000 calories looks like. It includes Elden’s avocados and eggs (with yolks, though), and The Runner’s Olive Garden.

Great Video Heidi! I loved the fact that my viewing of the video also involved an advertisement for DeGiorno Pizza. (cal count not disclosed)

    I haven’t weighed 150 since 6th grade. :)

    I haven’t weighed 250 since I was 29.

    Ugh.

if you manage to stay like this
you will have to change the blog title

  37. Comment by Tom in Albany | 04.1.2013 | 6:46 am

I think it is classic that you chose a song by Cake for your video!

Congrats to you and Adam! Awesome job!

  38. Comment by Lin | 04.1.2013 | 8:19 am

What I really noticed was how much your,er “boobs” shrank too. Congratulations.

  39. Comment by Chris | 04.1.2013 | 8:36 am

Okay, first thing I’ve got to say is this: your eyebrows are creepy evile. Eee-VILE.

Secondly, it’s inspirational, because you’ve shown me the change I could see in myself if I would just stick to my plan and lose the @#$! weight.

And C, how in the world do you keep that sexy farmer tan in the winter months?

  40. Comment by Rob L | 04.1.2013 | 8:50 am

We all need to chip in to buy fatty some of Dicky’s stylish sleeveless jerseys.

    Or maybe sunscreen.

  41. Comment by Elizabeth | 04.1.2013 | 11:44 am

The funnest (most fun?) part of the morph is the facial hair!

  42. Comment by Alan Beeston | 04.1.2013 | 12:54 pm

Looking great! I have found that the most important part to weight loss is to just find a fat burning product or system you feel comfortable with in order to reach your weight loss goals. Keep it up!

  43. Comment by Wife#1 | 04.1.2013 | 5:52 pm

@Lin: Moobs… those are moobs. Man boobs = moobs. :-)

Honestly, losing weight has a lot to do with what you’re eating and more important NOT eating. You should check out this blog on how important it is to avoid certain foods. Helped me a lot, and may help you too: http://how-to-reduce-belly-fat-blog.com/
