Lose 10 Pounds by Christmas Challenge: New Sponsors, Big Prizes, (Hopefully) Less Weight

We are now into the beginning of week 2 of the “Let’s Lose 10 Pounds by Christmas” challenge. And I’ve got some very awesome things to announce. Mainly, a few awesome companies have joined in the challenge, pitching in a lot of very cool prizes.

Which is nice, since there are more than a thousand of us trying to lose ten pounds by Christmas. Which, when you add all our weigh together, is very nearly 3.5 Toyota Pria (“Pria” is of course plural for “Prius”).

For those of you who have entered the challenge, today you need to leave the following in the comments section:

  1. Your starting weight
  2. Today’s weight
  3. How much you’ve lost (yes, I know I could figure out 3 by subtracting 2 from 1, but I don’t want to do that much math).

And now, let’s take a look at what cool new prizes (in addition to the prizes I’m already giving away) some lucky losers (i.e., people who lose at least ten pounds by the final weigh-in) will get.

Nay, I say. Nay, it is not too late to join. Just leave a comment to today’s post with your current weight and the fact that you are starting now.

But here’s the thing: while you have less time, you don’t get to lose less weight.

Like I said before, this is a ten pound challenge. If you want to win, you’ve got to lose ten pounds by December 23.

Doing Something Good

A number of you have commented that you’d like to make this into a fundraiser — turn this challenge into an opportunity to do something good for the cancer community.

I couldn’t agree more, and am working on something special.

My Weigh-In

I’ll have more to say on how my first week went tomorrow, but — in the interest of keeping things honest — my weigh-in today had me at 169.2 pounds.

That’s a loss of exactly four pounds from my initial weigh-in, which means I am exactly on-track with my plan.

    Well I don’t have a digital scale but I appear to weigh exactly what I did last week. In cool, new math terminology the numerical value is referred to as “heffalump” or HFLMP for short. So…

    I am not surprised I did not lose this first week. Dear hubby used the leftover turkey to make the most ham and turkey casserole that was resulted in a tongue orgasm – and for two nights in a row! Not only that, I had seconds (both nights). Kind of like double plays in a double header.

    Thus I believe I will be resorting to hardcore tactics for week 2. I am hoping next week to report this result:
    March 13: HFLMP-5

    To make that happen, I can say only this: “Get thee away Satan! (aka David, my taller half who reads this blog and cooks like a fiend).

We’d had Chinese for dinner Sunday (11/28), so I was carrying a lot of water weight Monday morning when I weighed in before this contest started. I lost 8.6 pounds that first day. So if you ignore that, I’m down 4.8 which is still damn good. :)

    Last week was stressful at work and I ended up skipping lunch (not good when you’re trying to lose weight even if you don’t overeat when you get to eat) and my mom recently lost her boyfriend to kidney cancer so we’ve been doing all the memorial, cremation, etc. arrangements. So I’m going to blame stress for not losing more than a measly pound.

    I am doing well on the exercise front though. :) I get to use the fancy gym on our local air base (my hubby is a civilian fed employee) and they have spin bikes!!! I can’t wait!!!

    Thank goodness I weighed in this morning. I’m a culinary instructor and today had to taste 52 different mayonnaise based dressings made by my students. 13 students each made mayonnaise, bleu cheese dressing, 1000 Island dressing and Green Goddess (yes it still is used in the business). After that is was 13 red wine vinaigrettes, 13 roasted shallot dressings and 13 raspberry vinaigrettes….with no salads for any of them. Haven’t felt this bloated since…I don’t know when!

    at a conference in Anaheim at the moment. It was tough watching MNF at ESPN ZONE Disney with the boss footing the bill. Had the chincken fingers and sliders off the garbage appetizer platter then a salad for dinner. Lots of beer as well with a giant piece of carrot cake. starting weight 198 according to the hotel gym scale.

    This seems almost unfair, but, uhm… I’m already done.

    The quick version explanation is: an eating binge (weight balloons) before a scheduled tonsillectomy (weight plummets). For what it’s worth, I highly recommend the tonsillectomy method as a diet jump-start.

    Not that I’ll stop now, the goal was always to continue and maybe finally get back into shape. So I’ll operate under the assumption that I must STILL be under 220.2 when Christmas arrives in order to qualify for any schwag.

    Thanks to my Nite Rider light system and getting off the couch, instead of watching Biggest Loser, I was off doing some Nite Riding, and I switched from doing the flats to climbing the hills, although downhills are much scarier.

    I sort of wish I had not started my weight loss effort in Oct. I’ve already lost 10lbs and need to lose another 5lbs.

    Oh well, good luck everyone and if no one has mentioned it livestrong.com’s myplate is an AWESOME way to track calories consumped/burned and weight. I’ve been doing it for a month and a half and it keeps me pretty honest with myself.

    So, with all this warm weather in Denver, I’ve been back on my bike and decided I should start checking out some website I used to frequent.

    2 years ago I had back surgery, and gained 50 lbs. Being disgusted with myself, I got right back to losing the weight and am now down 80 lbs from my highest weight in the last 6-8 months. I have been very consistent with my diet, weight training/cardio for the last couple months and am thrilled to join the challenge.

    Todays weigh: 241.5
    Weight will be on Dec 23: 230-231!!!!!

    Aaaarrgh! I’m back up 3 lbs! Oh, the humanity!

    At this point, I am restricting my food intake (as if it weren’t already restricted enough) and attempting – not quite successfully – to avoid all of the Christmas cookies and candy around my house. I just recently stopped drinking coffee in the morning, could that be the source of the 3 lbs? I may need to go back on the bean to regain traction!
